Weird Local Arrest
This guy manages a wood stove store about 40 miles from here. I have been in there a few times and nearly bought an expensive stove from him, a few years ago.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Noah Feit//The Charlotte Observer) - A North Carolina man was arrested after the hidden camera he allegedly used to spy on people in the bathroom was discovered, the Black Mountain Police Department said.
Robert Thomas Orr was charged Friday with six counts of felony secret peeping, police said in a news release shared on Facebook. Police said Orr used an electronic device to spy on people in another room, according to the news release.
The room in question was a public women?s restroom at Black Mountain Stove & Chimney, where a spy camera was discovered behind an air filter, the Citizen Times reported.
The 71-year-old Orr is the manager of the store, per WLOS. According to its website, Black Mountain Stove & Chimney is ?a family owned company? that sells wood and gas chimneys and stoves, and is about 15 miles east of Asheville.
Arrest warrants show the camera was found May 23 by a ?female victim? after she heard an iPad ping with a motion detection alert, and a look at the tablet revealed about 50 pictures of her in the bathroom, including a number where she was ?partially naked while using the toilet,? according to the Citizen Times.
Arrest warrants say Orr?s voyeuristic actions were ?to gratify his sexual desires,? WLOS reported.
The investigation was launched May 30, and Orr turned himself in to Buncombe County officials, police said in the news release.
Officials said Orr owns multiple properties, including some rental units, and an investigation of the iPad showed one of the ?peeping images? is of a tenant, per the Citizen Times.

Yep, there's no doubt that it was for voyeurism. There's no way that anybody could hide something as big as a stove or a stove pipe anywhere on their body, so it wasn't for security reasons...
But I don't understand is why would anybody pay the cost of the surveillance equipment when they could buy gentlemen's magazines a lot cheaper. Plus get to look at the cream of the crop instead of what might just walk in to a store such as this one?...0 -

Here is another story from the Asheville Citizen Times. The gal was walking around the showroom, of the wood stove store, when her Ipad sent her an alert of a motion detector. Of course, the guy used a motion detector on the camera, otherwise, he would have to sift through 12 hours of video every day.
I am no lawyer but I think that, legally speaking, this guy is up s*** creek with a wire canoe. Can you imagine, the DA puts that gal on the stand, and starts showing those 50 photos to the jury. His lawyer is going to move heaven and earth to get a plea deal. I bet he does some serious jail time.

Robert Thomas "Bob" Orr, 71, of Black Mountain, faces five felony charges of peeping using electronic devices after a spy camera was discovered in his business' bathroom, according to Black Mountain police and search warrants filed in Buncombe County.
One of the victims discovered the camera when an iPad pinged in the showroom of Black Mountain Stove & Chimney, Orr's store on Black Mountain Avenue, on May 23, according to the search warrant.
Documents say the female victim opened the iPad to find several "motion detected" alerts containing pictures of the women's bathroom. She identified approximately 50 images of herself, including pictures in which she is partially naked while using the toilet.
Dismantling the air vent in the women's bathroom revealed a pin-hole camera behind the air filter, the search warrant stated. Orr called the victim by phone when she removed the camera and said he had remote access to the footage.
When questioned by Black Mountain police on May 30, Orr said he did not dispute the that version of events, according to the warrant.0 -

I thought of the same thing. I even did a quick search of Apple and Android apps and found many things that will allow your camera to function as a motion detecting camera, but nothing to detect motion detectors.0 -

I am back in the Dark Ages with my flip phone. I am low tech. I just figured there must be an app for an Ipad where the Ipad will detect a motion detector, because, of course the perv has to have a motion detector for his camera, if you think about it, the perv has to have the motion detector, otherwise, he has to dig through 12 hours of video every day. He is a perv but he doesn't have that much time.
The story also says the gal, once her Ipad had detected the camera, was able to show her the pics, of herself.
Don't ask me I am a Neanderthal man, my dna is rated at 3 percent Neanderthal by 23andme.com, some of the highest Neanderthal ever tested for, I don't know jack about these new Iphone devices.

Don't feel bad Allen, I am in I.T. for a living and I don't even try to keep up with the mobile devices. I am not sure I'd even have a mobile phone if not for work.
I have done the trick of using a camera to detect for infrared emitters. This can be done just to see if a remote is sending a signal, or to check for low light cameras that use IR emitters. Try it, point your TV remote at your camera on your phone. You camera picks up those pulses of infrared light that we can't see. In a dark room, the IR emitters just look like lights.
I know the older motion detectors us passive infrared (therefore no emitter). I think there might be new ones that use radio or microwave frequency. I suppose those could be detected as can anything that emits light or sound. I dunno. I am curious now...0
