Online pistol purchase for Wife - Who fills out the paperwork?
Question for the group. My wife has found a new pistol she would like and we plan to purchase it on the auction side. Since this is going to be "her" pistol she wants to fill out the paperwork when it arrives. Can I (legally) buy it through my gunbroker account and then can she fill out the paperwork when it arrives at my FFL? She has a carry permit. I would prefer not to have to set up a GB auction account for her but will if necessary.

I would ask the receiving ffl if they will do the transfer. I have bought for friends off gunbroker before, after asking my ffl. He stated as long as the person filling out the paperwork will be the owner, he didn?t care what account on gunbroker it was ordered under. 0 -

It's at the discretion of the FFL on the receiving end. There shouldn't be a problem with it where it's family, but it all depends on your FFL if they feel comfortable doing it. Some do, some don't.
As others have sent contact your FFL that you're going through and ask them if they're comfortable with it0 -
When a firearm comes in, I look at the buyer?s name. If that?s not who comes in to fill out the paperwork, it?d raise question with me. If I personally know the family, I would be semi ok to do this. If a stranger comes in with this request, nope... 0 -

Depends on what you mean by registered... Do you mean that you bought it and you were the one that filled out the 4473 form? Thats ?who owns the gun?? That?s irrelevant. Where you need to be concerned is whether your state considers a loaded firearm in a car as a ?concealed weapon.? Then she (or whoever is the sole occupant) would need a CCP. All paper work was done in Indiana for me, wife has no permit. I just want to leave a gun in her car but not have her violate a law. 0 -

Welcome to Illinois. Starting July 16, the firearm you purchase will actually be in YOUR name and the REASON you bought it. AND it will be in a computer STATE run database. Yes sir, home of the free. Gun sales here will drop dramatically, new state license is 1500 for two years, plus 60 pages of new regulations the FFL has to follow. I have purchased guns that are in the possession of my father and mother...
I posses guns that were purchased by my father and grandfather and an uncle...
I talked at length about this subject with the batf agent conducting the only visit and forensic inspection and review I ever witnessed in a 20 year period at the gunshop...
The stated opinion was that as long as nobody was legally prohibited from owning a firearm - and that the guns in question were legal to own in the respective states involved - and that the guns were not used in criminal activity - and amongst close family they mostly did not care and did not look at it as a straw gun purchase or loophole type purchase...
But of course everyone here who received a firearm before they turned 18 immediately had that gun transferred to them or put in their name and underwent a nics check on the day of their majority and also registers the gun in their name in each state or municipality that relocate to...
The bigger concern with much respect to our first responder and LEO members is local police departments - many of which will confiscate guns during any point of contact and not return them without proof of ownership which many do not have...

Spoke with my FFL and he is fine having her fill out the paperwork when it arrives. I have known the FFL/Gunsmith for a number of years so this is not a one off transaction.
