No matter who was at fault it sucks when you read about someone you know.

It sucks when you don't know who they are especially when you see it happen right before your eyes.

I saw a woman get hit in the drivers side door by a log truck on an icy bridge back in December of 1966 in Rockwood, TN. There was one car between us and the wreck. Woman slid sideways on the black ice in her car while towing a U-Haul trailer and the log truck nailed her right in the door. She was dead instantly or very shortly there after.

First person I ever saw that died right in front of me and it stuck with me forever. She had turned blue and was wearing a seat belt that had to be cut off of her. There was baby cloths, toys and bottles every where on the bridge and we were searching all over the place including below the bridge for a baby that might have been thrown from the car. Thank the lord the baby was with it's father and she was on her way to meet them.

A few minutes later a police car from the Rockwood police dept. came flying onto the bridge like an idiot with his siren and lights going and while trying to stop he started sliding. My uncle heard him coming before I did and told me to get out of here because this ain't gonna end well. We took off running as fast as we could on the ice in the opposite direction. The cop managed to crash his car right into the wrecked vehicles. He hit his head on his windshield because he wasn't wearing a seat belt. He come climbing out of his car with blood streaming down his face and staggering around. That was a real dumb move. It's a wonder he didn't kill some people that were trying to help including us.

Anyway like I said it bothered me for the longest time and I still think about it from time to time especially when I'm driving on ice.

I see people do stupid stuff on the highway nearly every day I drive. It's become sort of like seeing a squirrel who is nearly clear of the oncoming vehicle turn and run back across the road. Sometimes they make it and sometimes not. OOPs Thump thump.
Guess I'm uncivilized but I just go on and think " Man what a dumb thing to do"(whether it's a human in a vehicle or a squirrel).
