22 Magnum Rifle

I have at least 2 of all the most popular rifles all the way up to 7mm Mag. I had 2 but traded them for more guns. I do not have a 300 blackout but 2 of them are on my list of guns to buy.

However i have a few 22 magnum pistols but i do not have a 22 magnum rifle. I do have 2 Savage 110 17HMR rifles.

My question is with a lot of 22 LR and 2 17HMR rifles do i really need a 22 magnum rifle?

If i buy one 22 magnum rifle i will buy 2 just in case if things go bad i have another for backup so i can use my ammo in case if i ever need it.

Any ideas?

    17 shoots ok if it is dead calm...22m outperforms 22lr a bunch...i have maybe 2 dozen assorted.....and the latest RIA Armscor 22 mag all steel pistol 14 rd mag ..impressive......and 22 mag birdshot in a NAA pocket pistol is a easy carry for copperheads at the lake

    nah, good enough where you're at. 22LR is cheap and very plentiful. 22WMR is not.

    unless, you figure, you've got 2 of everything else, 22WMR is a glaring hole in your collection!

    I bought one of the first 17HMR Ruger 77/17s. The 17 has less wind drift than most 22 magnums at reasonable distances, out to 200 yards or so. Most manufacturers have ballistic charts online. Up to and including woodchucks it is my go to round. For anything a little bigger the 22wmr shines with heavier and tougher bullet. As far as handguns the 17 kinda sucks but with the new 22wmr loads for concealed carry it is now somewhat a viable handgun round. Your experience may vary...Bob

    22lr aguila hivel supmax hp at 1750 fps was the hottest 22lr but now cannot find it imported from messico...glad i got 14K rds....and i have a large number of diff 22mag rds to play with......had a grendel 22 mag 30 rd pistol years ago till they had the firing pin problems so i traded it ..now a fellow makes a good firing pin but the pistol price is crazy....

    I'm going out on a limb here to say that , NO you don't have even ONE Savage 110 17HMR.

    Barring some very inventive gunsmithing, it's not really possible to make, buy, or conjure up such a specimen.

    In reference to the question about 22WMR rifles: I don't see a need if one already has 17HMR. Uses outside the limited capabilities of the 17 HMR are better suited to centerfire cartridges.

    I always wanted one of the Brno Semi Auto 22 mags. I had a H&R M700 delux 22 mag Semi Auto. It was a good shooter but the trigger sucked.

    I have just one now, a Old Savage 93 with the plastic stock. I put a timney trigger on it and a 3x9 Vari x 2 scope and it is very accurate.

    Dave I think you should get a 22 mag rifle or 2 I would get a bolt action and a pump or Lever gun. They are fun and quite powerful.

    I wanted the Springfield M6 (you know the boat oar and the club single shot rifle/.410 shotgun combo) when they were like $200 used. The hang up for me was which 22. Definitely not the .22 Hornet. .22 magnum would've been fine since I wouldn't be shooting that much so having a dedicated round would've been okay. But I was in the single caliber multiple gun mentality and by the time I came to terms the M6 got in to stupid prices. Thanks "Doomsday Prepper". I wonder if they came down some? Need to look.

    took one ruger bisley in 22lr and rechambered it 22mag (cylinder long enuff) and put on a long barrel ......fun

    First gun I ever bought for myself was a Savage 24 in .22mag over a .20ga.

    Traded it a few years later, when working the night shift at a Tobacco warehouse, unloading trucks with hand rolled bundles/stacks/baskets. (Mountain City, TN.) Around 1975.

    Traded it to a good Ol' Boy, named Pug, for his Grandfathers 1894 Winchester .30-.30. (1952) Beautiful wood. Still in my collection. I needed a deer rifle, Pug needed a squirrel gun. Win, win.


    (.22mag over .20ga. Are very difficult to find.) I bought a .30-.30 over a .20 ga. A few years back, on a "Heads up," from Select-Fire. 24V. Very, very nice. Have a Simmons Pro 4X Diamond reticle scope on it.
