4 Breakens Today
4 Breakens Today within 2 miles of my house. One group of people are pretending to be from ADT and the other group has a women beating on the door and when you open it up a man is hiding and they rob you.
Another incident is someone shot out a tire on a car on highway 64. Then when she pulled over they tried to rob her but the police were in the area and that group got caught.
Things must be getting desperate if they are doing this on a Saturday when everyone is home. Thats the scary part.
I have been trying for years for my wife to keep a gun in her car and she refused. Today she broke down and said its time for her to have a gun with her.
She is a pretty good shooter she just did not feel she needed a gun with her.

Dogs and guns are a big help...
Blink security systems help as well.
Get pics of the creeps.0 -
We have 2 dogs 1 is 106 pounds and the other is about 56 pounds. They watch the house good. 0 -
I pity the Fool, that runs across my Dog, in the PM.
If I am not already awake, (a very light sleeper.) I will most definately be awake when my dog starts chewing on you.
Pits, break bones.
You really do not want that happening,0 -
If I were a criminal I would expect every where that I was going to break in would have a dog or two. If confronted I would just shoot the dog or dogs and get on with my business. 0 -

Pretty sure my very muscular dog (with Jaws that can/will break your arm.) would be on you, before you thought about a response, in such a situation, in the dark, in an unknown evironment.
About the time I would be pulling/engaging a 12 ga, Pump.
Good luck in that situation/engagement.0 -
I would bring a large bag of tacos and the dog would let me take what ever I wanted. 0 -
A few years ago in a county over from us,a guy bought a new John Deere mower and lived in an area where things would go missing. He had a nice garage in a fenced in yard with a big German Shepard. While he was at work during the day, the thieves cut the lock on the gate and gave the dog a hamburger, when the dog came out of the fence they backed a pickup through the gate and locked the dog outside the fence, used the pick up to pull the door off the garage and stole the John Deere. 0 -

All but criminal would have to do with your dog is rub some taco seasoning on himself and your dog would mistake him for you
But in all seriousness, most people that break into houses know whether there's a dog present or not. I don't think your dog would have a chance to make it three feet towards a person that knew that your dog was there that had a firearm, why do you think so many cops end up shooting dogs... or a couple of sirloin steaks to throw to him
But then again you might get someone that is stupid enough not to case out your place to see if you have a dog or when or if you're going to be home0 -

The first clue would be the big muddy paw prints on the front door, if you have not missed the 100' heavy dutyTrolley line run leading to the front door. Where his lead terminates.
Making it "three feet," towards my dog, in the dark, when you are breaking in, in an unknown environment? He'd be on you way before that. (Seriously.) [And Personally, I would not want that.]
That is rich.
Good luck with that. (He is not a Chihuahua,)
Laughable, on it's face, RemOaks.0 -
You really have to think in rings of security, don't trust just one. Outside lights, dogs, video surveillance and neighbors watching. I leave the TV or the radio on. My three little ankle biters are unlikely to stop anybody. but it doesn't take much to set them off and they make a considerable racket. Every little bit helps.
I have a real deal CS gas grenade inside my gun safe, tripwire. They are likely going to get in. they are also likely to wish they hadn't.
I've been burgled once and home invaded once. The burglars chummed hot dogs to get past my dogs. The home invaders knocked me down and stomped me. what they didn't count on was me getting back up and grabbing my pistol.0 -

When it comes to a dog against a person with a handgun, even when somebody claims their dog Is super dog, my money's on the guy with the handgun.
I mean you always hear about vicious dogs being overpowered by a human being with a handgun. You very seldom if ever hear dogs overpowering a human being that has a handgun.
But go ahead and keep on laughing. I pray for your dog sake the theory never has to be tested0 -

You think what ever you would like. (My dog is not a Chihuahua.) A Thief breaking in, in the night, and recognizing what is going on in an unfamiliar situtation, in a step or two? (Besides the fact of me taking action.)
Okay. ..........................................Gotcha.0 -
My two German Shepherds would die for me in the blink of an eye.

Funny, If you ever watch Live PD, or Cops, when the K-9's are brought out/deployed, the Bad Guys usually give up rather than getting chewed on. Over, and over, and over. (Handguns or not.)
I've not heard of many K-9's getting shot by Perps. Very few and far between.
Perhaps I am missing something in your argument?0 -

Just because YOU haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. And these dogs are extensively trained dogs him dealing with perps.
No I'm not saying that Buddy is not going to be able to help, but...
Plus you have to take in consideration that the K9 dog is not called in accept for when they have already got the perp in handcuffs to slip for drugs and other things plus only when a perp does hunker down and can't be found. So they don't actually spend a whole lot of time working in a dangerous situation where they might be shot per year. But when they are called in to a dangerous situation, the thought is they only send them in because they're more Expendable than a human being
But if you would like to carry on this conversation, I would suggest that you start a a new thread so we quit hijacking thread

Nah.............................
I'm done.
I've said my piece.
Carry on, if you wish though. (It is quite obvious you "submitted" to this thread, waiting for a bing, bing, bing moment, as quickly as you replied.) I am not invested as much, as you seem to be.

Are Breakens like Brackens? 0 -
Depends on the dog. If you have ever heard of the 21 foot rule you start to get a feeling for a serious dog attack. The difference being a Dog gets there twice as fast as a human can, from thirty feet they can be traveling 30 MPH a average human's top speed is around 15 MPH. Two dogs and your chances are near zero to neutralize both before you become a chew toy. Many Dogs charge and then stop, bluff a little and then maybe bite. The ones that don't hesitate are dangerous, the likelihood of them biting the wrong person increases.
The last serious guard dog I had never bite a kid or a woman until he did. If you were male and came in the gate uninvited he'd he'd be on you quick, no hesitation and biting seriously in seconds. He was a slasher and not one to grab and hold on, his bites were generally 3/8th inch deep slashes to your legs. A retarded girl maybe 20 years old came into the yard and caught him asleep, he bit the crap out of her. I had to put him down. My first guard dog was trained to take your shoes off, the best trained I ever had, he'd neutralize you without doing serious damage. The last one I had would get in your face and he was a big Dog he could look most people straight in the eye on his hind legs, but really wasn't much of a biter, the intimidation factor was high. Another I had would grab onto your ass and refuse to let go, she was a thinker, she instinctively knew who needed to be bitten.
The thing is most burglars will avoid houses with dogs, too many without Dogs to choose from.
All of my Dogs are trained to ignore gunfire, you had better hope the first shot is fatal, dogs don't feel pain like humans do. Like many wild animals, a heart shot more often than not won't put them down, a run of 40-60 yards after being shot with a rifle isn't unusual. Once a Dog goes into attack mode, many get seriously single-minded and injury doesn't stop them or deter them. An example is a dog with a face full of Porcupine Quills, you'd think they would stop, some will, some won't.0 -
