Ammo ?

How much ammo should you have for a minimum. I know you can never have enough.

I am counting shotguns, pistols and rifles. I have 410, 12 and 16 gauge shotguns.

Pistols are 22, 22mag, 32, 380, 9, 40, 45, 45 long colt, 30 carbine, 327, 38, 357. I gave my kids my 44 mags. I also have 1 9mm Makarov pistol.

I know i do not have enough 30-30, 243, 270, and 30-06.

I have a good amount of 556 and 7.62x39 but what is a minimum number of rounds.

What do you think is a minimum?

I do have to step up my ammo game.

    I would say minimum of 500 for each center-fire and 2K rim-fire.

    I reload so I have the components to make ALOT of ammo. I also cast my own bullets and ALOT of lead. ;)

    Another thought dav goes to how your ammo is stored/distributed. How much/what caliber(s) can you realistically carry (along with your other gear) if you're planning to? If you're staying put, where/how is it stored? What's for fun time and what's for real? Is your ammo appropriately marked to avoid confusion on a "bad day"...'cuz that WILL happen. The KISS principle should always be applied during planning.

    I'm not sure about minimum as I seem to have turned into an ammo hoarder. I use 50 - see a good deal and buy 100. Or use 100 and buy 1000. It is a good thing that with proper storage it doesn't spoil. Shotguns and 22s get used the most. I load for shotgun but still buy target loads when on sale because sometimes it can be cheaper to do so. Probably have 2 or 3 years supply on hand so I guess I don't need to think about reloading shotgun for a while. 22s are another story. Have about twice as much as I'll ever shoot but still buy occasionally if I see a super deal. What can I say but, Hi my name is Bob and I am an Ammoholic. Bob

    How long do you think your war will last? If it's only for a few minutes you won't need much, but if you're fighting zombies for a couple of years you're gonna need a lot more.

    TIP for saving ammo. Remember that only head shots kill zombies.

    For hunting - a box of 20 rounds usually last me several years. Fire 1 or 2 rounds to check the scope then shoot a deer or 2.
    Sooo, 2-6 boxes on hand. I have enough reloading components to hold me for years, however.
    This includes 308, 300BLK, 6.5 CM, 338WM, 458WM, etc.

    Self defense (9mm & 10mm) requires regular practice, 50 rounds per month, mininum. So a 2-year supply is about 1500 rounds.

    22 rimfire is an all together different situation. 50 rounds a week is my average. Lots of plinking, practice, pest control and small game hunting. So I figure a 200 rounds of 22rf a month for 2 years is 4-5 cartons of 1000 rds each.

    If the ammo companies pull their scam of a phoney shortage again I can cut back on my shooting somewhat and make what I have on hand last me for the rest of my life. (We aren't talking about that many years)

    As posted I also reload and cast Current plans call for building up my inventory to at least 5000 primers of each size that I use . Loaded ammo I try to keep 500 to a 1000 rounds for each pistol on hand . Rimfire ammo usually runs around 5 to 6 k in storage. Would like to bump that up to about 10 k . Rifle ammo usually 2 to 300 rounds loaded in 30-06 308 and 7.62x39 223 runs about 500. Yes I know the black rifle crowd will say my 223 stash is inadequate, but it fits my plans just fine .

    My personal threshold is a minimum 1K Rounds for any Caliber I own. (Rimfire, that goes much higher.)

    Everything is clearly marked in .30-.50 Ca. Ammo cans. I have, (Uhmmnn) a few.

    I am not planning on "bugging out" anywhere.

    That seems pretty close but I would have 1,000 rounds for an AR or AK type rifle. 1,000 each for 45/38/357 and 500 for big boomers. I too have LOTS of wheel weights, LOTS of bullet molds from 22 to 458 cal and too much power and too many primers to count.

    if you are a good enough shot, one round per person, if you shake a bit better make it two shots per person, now you just have to figure out how many people are going to attack you............
