Harbor Freight press

Anybody have one and does it work well? Also what do you use for steel tooling?

After my day yesterday of changing bearings and races in one of the truck hubs with nothing but a hammer and an old prybar cut off and used as a drift I must say I will never do it that way again.

Also does anyone have a chart that will show input torque equals output torque on a 1:58 torque multiplier? Tired of guess if I?m close.

    Had a HF press in my home workshop for many years, till I retired.
    Best $99 I ever spent. You will need to assemble an assortment of plates, angle steels, bearing spacers, punches, ect ect, to get the most out of it.
    Most "tools" I used on the press were just scrapes of steel, pipes, old bearing races.
    Kept everything under the press in a big box....never know when an old bearing race will be the perfect fit to press a pulley on a shaft or such. :D

    These bearings need to be torqued to 500ftlbs and I have have a 250ftlbs torque wrench. I can achieve the 500 with the multiplier but I have no clue when.

    You might be better off buying one of these for your bearings. It works a lot better than the Press in my opinion. This Bearing tool kit is specifically made to do bearings on Class 8 semi trucks and trailers and some lighter Duty trucks and trailers.

    Keep in mind I did not search for the company that sells them cheapest. But this will give you a start

    Any press is better than using a had drill.

    Getting striaght holes and easy on the shoulder.

    i have a HF press and it works very well. they also have a bearing and seal tool kit that u can use. u can collect a lot of "tooling" to use from bits and pieces of scrap steel.

    Speaking of HF, I downloaded their coupon app to my phone. Found it to be really handy when I go there without the latest flyer.

    He is talking about a arbor press, not a drill press.


    I've found at work that sockets work well to press bearings out.
    Multiple sizes to fit the bearings.

    I bought one many years ago do not use it often its tucked away in a corner most of its life but for the hundred bucks ( maybe a bit over ) or so its paid for its self many times over and like everyone I have kept bits of steel plate ,rods . pipes . and sockets to use with it .
    its one of the HF tools no more than I use it it was well worth the cost

    Money well spent. Besides the numerous bearings pulled and pressed, I have straightened handlebars and other bent items. I also use it to bend thicker steel I don't want to hammer in the vise.

    The bottom is adjustable for larger items, which is a pain to move but sure comes in handy when you do need to press larger items.

    Sockets would be the best items for pressing. I have square aluminum blocks and other aluminum stock for pressing more delicate items, also use them as spacer blocks and ram extensions.

    big heavy base plate for a nice flat surface. The ones that come with are OK.
