Bill Buckner dies at 69 after battling dementia

Buckner is most remembered for a game ending error on a slow roller off the bat of Mookie Wilson in the tenth inning of Game 6 when playing for the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series against the New York Mets. The play aroused the anger of Red Sox fans and has since become prominently entrenched in American baseball lore.[1]

    With no disrespect to this good man his big moment arrived to define his career and he simply blew it.

    Instead of being "The" hero he became the one who lost it all for Boston

    That may seem trivial in the grand scheme of things as it should be but in our eagerness to judge all things by your score in the Colosseum it was made him immortal for the wrong reasons

    He committed an error, that happens in the game of baseball. The World Series was lost in the next game, it was the Press that hounded him, not one ballplayer said a bad word....ever...because they knew. Buckner has a record many players can only dream of holding in death ;) . R.I.P

    I remember going to Dodger games with my Grandfather in the mid-70's. Buckner played left field for the Dodgers, which is where Grandpa preferred to sit. He was a popular player and waved to the fans in the bleachers. When he was traded to Chicago in 1977, he was missed by the L.A. fans. The rest of his career- good or bad, doesn't matter to me. He was a good player and seemed to be a nice guy.

    He was a really good ball player and a great 1st baseman.

    Look at his stats, when he was with the Dodgers he was really good.

    The media made him a goat.
