Gift Gun # 2 - A Little Less of A Mystery.....
Following up on my other thread (https://forums.gunbroker.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1883376) about my old college friend passing on a couple of rifles to me this weekend. The first was initially a mystery until y'all helped me figure it out to me a modified M1917 .30-06. The second rifle is pictured below. Much less of a mystery on this one, but still a neat little rifle.
Remington Model 512 .22 S/L/LR. Based on the "RSS" markings, it appears to have a date of manufacture of November, 1947. Tube-fed bolt action, which is a little unique. I really like the feel of this thing. It's hard to explain, but these old guns just FEEL better than newer ones - point more naturally, fit the hands/shoulder better, etc. Whether from wear, or from the factory, the trigger is beautifully smooth. This is no wall hanger. I will happily shoot all day with this little beauty.
A friend who gives you old guns is a good friend indeed!

I own/cherish/shoot a 1940's Model 81DL. Passed down from my Dads collection.
It took me 5-7 years of touching base with Numrich, in order to locate all the magazine lifter pieces needed to bring it back to life.
Like yours, it is a tube fed, bolt action S/L/LR. Has an Olympic quality highly adjustable peep sight. Beaver tail fore end.
My Son is deadly accurate with it. Can hit floating leaves in the pond at 150 yards, all day long.

Agree. I?ve been picking up a few old Remington.22?s lately. There?s just something about them. Some are bringing heafty prices these days. Several years ago, a nice 511 or Winchester 74 might bring $75 at a flea market. I missed the boat on those.0 -
