Date of Manufacture S&W Model 31-1

Can anyone identify the DOM of an S&W Model 31-1 revolver with a serial number H348 or a pathway to research the date. All I've been able to find out on the internet is that production began in 1961. Thanks for any information.

  The H prefix began in 1969. Given the low number that would be my answer. The thumblatch should be the raised checkered type. The gun should have checkered wood stocks but most likely not the larger diamond type. IIRC 1968 was the final year for those, but you never know with Smith. I have a 1961 made round butt with flat thumblatch. Fun little guns.

  Is the serial number you gave us from the bottom of the grip frame?

  Yes, the number H348 is on the bottom of the grip frame.
