Anyone - with just the smallest amount of imagination - can be terrified while listening to that speech.

I love the story about that scene -
Robert Shaw thought that he should actually be drunk for the scene to give it more reality. He got pretty hammered before shooting. Then he proceeded to screw up the lines for take after take.
After several hours, Spielberg gave up and said "We're done for the day."
Shaw came in the next morning and apologized to the cast and crew - and then nailed the scene perfectly on the first take. That's the one you see in the movie.0 -
