I rented a trailer from a guy when I was a RI at the mountain camp Camp F D Merrill in North Georgia., This old guy who was a Ranger in the Korean War and Vietnam was working on a roof. He fell off the roof about 40 feet and had a crowbar stuck through his middle. He drove himself to the hospital and got fixed up.

My grandmother fell from the 2nd floor of her old house which she had decided to tear down, although she had broken her lower leg, she crawled to the car and drove 25 miles to the hospital, this was in 1968 ... She had retired at 65, moved to town and bought a duplex and rented out the other side which made her payments, she rented out her 8 acres to the farmer that her land backed up to and tore down the house (which she owned free and clear) so she wouldn't have to pay taxes on it, and she lived comfortably on her retirement and a little profit from the apartment and cropshare until she passed in 98.
Looking back, she wasn't only tough she was smart, knew how to plan and didn't have to depend on anyone to take care of her as my grandpa passed in 1964.0
