Lost in Space
Was just thinking about building a mock up of their space ship.
How did they build their "basement"?
I remember episodes where they take the elevator down to the quarters below. I do realize they had a slight ramp, but they must have plowed into the dirt pretty far eh? Or did they have some dimensional shifting to allow for the different stories on the inside without affecting the overall size?
And as long as we are on the subject, I think it was a rather liberal show and all, because Dr Smith would have been tossed overboard if I were there. Then the most famous line, Crush, Kill, Destroy, by the robot. Oh how far we have come as civilization.

i remember watching it a couple of times and thought that after 2 or three of Smiths crap they should have marooned him on a vacant planet and i never watched it anymore 0 -

In Hollywood, interior prop dimensions never own up to exterior's! Watching Wagon Train, those shots inside the covered wagons where the room size is HUGE have always vexed me!
Lost in Space spent all their allotted funding paying its cast members. The props and especially the costumes for all of the "creatures" must have been made by a troop of cub scouts! That fellow in the CARROT suit says it all!!
I must have been very deprived in my youth, as I really did enjoy watching Lost in Space. Seeing it in reruns more than 50 years later has made me feel sorry for my own stupidity!0 -

That fellow in the carrot suit is infamous - as that costume with some modifications got recycled and used again in several TV programs...
There are several cases of this practice that are especially obvious when viewing lost in space - several of the monsters had previously appeared in B grade horror flicks produced by the same studio that handled LIS.
The same with props especially vehicles and weapons.
I believe there is a book dedicated to the subject.

Mike, that Chariot vid is cool. Elevator company reproducing it, one has to wonder if they will take on the elevator issue of the ship. As mentioned in the vid, the fans have all the details and specs and are finicky about it. Reminds me of the chompers on Galazy Quest.
For my mock up, I was thinking of maybe a few more windows and making a nice outback sunroom type structure. The problem I have with such a structure is that while it is cool and interesting, that it will draw attention that I may or may not want.
Then again, maybe it will work like a duck decoy does? Aack aaaaack aaack aaaaaack.0 -

Yes Mike, that actor in the carrot suit is the same guy who made Sidney Poitier his breakfast along with curing his hangover in the movie "Lilies Of The Field" which is one of my favorite's! It has been a long time since I did some reading about him but IMMIC, I believe he committed suicide some many years ago.0 -
cheap easy to make b movies for TV
as a kid they were entertaining just like bat man superman and so on just watch it for what it was soap opra for kids
my dad disliked all the shows I watched as a kid twilight zone, outer limits ,star trek ,lost in space, and so on
to him anything but a western or country music programs were just wasting air time :shock: :shock:

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was another one of those great shows. They even had action figures and toys for that show.
But another question about Lost In Space. How did they get the Chariot into the space ship? Over the episodes they built alot of things, so that Jupiter must have had one hellova cargo hold eh?0
