Seen the movie several times. Very intense and worth watching. Interesting insights from the men who were there. The open humvee story " like driving down mainstreet in a convertible corvette. With everyone shooting at you" How serious these vets were in it...

God bless those rangers and others who serve so well.

Today I came across this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XND8h8FPCvw and learned 10th Mountain Division was American. All these years I thought they were Pakistani forces since the movie "Black Hawk Down" didn't explain. The documentary filled in some gaps that were missing from the movie.

    Yes, Yosh.

The venerable Tenth Mountain Division will be very happy to know, they were Pakistani Forces in that engagement.

I have several Ranger Brothers, best friends. One was present/in attendance for the "Mogadishu Mile." (He will not/has not watched the Movie.) "I was there, what do I care about some "Hollywood version," of what we did? I lost Brothers."

Shameful the Armor present, was not brought to bear. It was there and ready to go, avoiding an "International Incident," was apparently more important than saving American Lives.

    Hhhhmmmnnnn...............................................Somewhat like Bengahzi.

Yosh, read the book, it's much better than the movie.

I've never been in the military. I wonder about the reasoning behind not having a direct communication channel between the air surveillance and the ground troops.

I retired out of the 2/22 Inf Bn at Ft Drum in 1998..

2/14 Inf was just down the street from us and we had a couple of guys in our unit that were there. They would not talk about it either. No great surprise there though, is there?

I think what you missed in the movie was that the Tenth Mountain along with UN forces which were comprised of Paskistani ARMY and Malaysian ARMY providing the armor. Go back and watch that scene where the Colonel is contacting the General from the Stadium where the UN Forces were staged. As i recall you says 10th Mountain AND.... 10th Mountain was not involved in the original raid.

    Matthews:
What's the matter Danny? Something you don't like?

    McKnight:
No Specter gunships, daylight instead of night... late afternoon when they're all f***ed up on Khat, only part of the city Aidid can mount a serious counter-attack on short notice...

    McKnight:
    What's not to like?

    Harell:
    Life's imperfect!

    McKnight:
Yeah, for you two, circling above it at 500 feet it's imperfect. Down in the street, it's unforgiving.

This DVD just came out and it's not the Micheal Bay movie that came out a while back. It's more documentary than things going "boom".

    SCOUT5 - According to this DVD there's 5 books.
