Sub-Contractors,,,
Got a sub contractor,gutterman,comimg to do work on the house in the morn. We have always treated them beyond just hired help.
We have a ice cooler ready with bottled water,and three different types of pop. We are also going to bring in 3 or 4 pizzas for lunch for them. How do you treat your sub contractors???

As a subcontractor, buying us drinks and supplying us lunch is always appreciated but never expected. Nor should it be expected to supply drinks and lunch to a subcontractor 0 -

I agree.
The gesture is always appreciated, even if the items themselves may not be what you're accustom to.
Saving a few bucks on lunch always SEEMS like a good idea, but one customer decided to feed us a dish popular in Yemen.
I had never been served rose water before, and will politely refuse it if offered again.
I could not even identify the main course, but it was no more palatable than the rose water.0 -

I hired a ROOFING COMPANY to reshingle my garage. I gave the WORKERS a couple of bottles of Gator-Aide. Hot day.
I hired an HVAC COMPANY to replace our heat pump. I bought BBQ sandwiches and cokes at 5 pm for the 2 guys that had been working real hard all day, and planned to keep working into the evening .
Folks that go out of their way to avoid crushing the azaleas, cleaning up after themselves, wiping their boots- slip THEM an extra 5 bucks, and a kind word to their company. It can go a long way towards making their day.0 -

When the Mountain Electric Tree Guys were here on my property for a couple days,dropping 13 trees that overhung my house for free - a $10k job, I had Subway Subs, a deluxe condiment side tray, a selection of XL drinks, etc delivered. It did not go unnoticed/unappreciated. I've been stopped numerous times to be told how much they appreciated the gesture. "People do not do that for us."
Well I work hard for a living, I appreciate those that do so on my behalf, as well. I am not afraid to show a little consideration on their behalf. (And) I do.0 -

If you hire the right subcontractor you don't have to give them a little extra to get the job done right. It's all in who you choose, if you don't vet them you may get crappy work. But that's all they are capable or willing to give for the price and give you.
as far as Mountain Electric tree guys go, they are being paid by the hour and actually would get fired if somebody found out that they did all that work for you for free.
Personally I wouldn't have accepted the $10,000 job for free. Even if they were under contract, they weren't under contract with you, they were under contract with the power company or being paid by the hour by the power company. Plus the owner wasn't the one giving it away, so basically the guys that did the job for you was stealing time from the company. I personally won't take stolen property or time, it helps to enable people to steal, and I won't help people break the law.0 -

I agree, I said the same thing he had a previous supposed to this threat. I said although it's not required it is greatly appreciated.
But what's required good relationship is doing what you're supposed to do. That's all that is required. They do the job in it professional manner in a decent time frame and you pay them in a decent time frame, that is the end of a good relationship. Everything else is just schmoozing in my opinion and the opinion of most business man that I know.0 -

I love the anti Corvette attitude. Makes me want to drive mine tonight. Seen plenty of anti's at car shows. Now the contractors.. licensed and of all races.. Holy Cow that must piss you off greatly..or at least I hope so.0
