I have Defender turned on, but also run the free versions of Avast! and Malwarebytes. Avast! is a real-time full-time anti-virus but the free version of Malwarebytes is not; it's a scan and clean program. I just ran scans using them both, as I do about twice a month, and came up with zero infections for about the umpteenth month in a row. So my combo works very well indeed.

I also have a paid do-all program called System Mechanic Pro, for removing junk, checking the registry, optimizing my internet connection and lots more. It makes my desktop sing.

Actually Windows Defender with Win10 is very solid. I had been in meetings with Microsoft and was pretty impressed with how they are updating it using info captured, AI and Machine Learning all the time.

We still scan PC?s at work with another tool, but Win10 with defender runs pretty clean compared to what we find on Win7.

The real experts tell me that for all its annoyances, Win 10 is a whole lot more secure than 7 ever was. Once I got Cortana and One Drive cloud storage turned off, I got used to 10 very quickly. I never use Edge, Office, or Outlook, either. I run Firefox and LibreOffice. I keep Chrome loaded just in case Firefox goes down - even though it hasn't crashed for me in years.

Same here. I used to use Norton and later PC Matic, but my best luck to date has been Windows Defender...and at no charge!

Windows Defender is standard and free works well. You can run Avast along side also free for added protection if you net surf frequently.

Both are excellent anti viral protections.

I've used Avira on the last 2 computers I've owned and also on my new one and haven't had a virus since installing it.

I have their free virus protection and I purchased their System Speedup Pro which clears junk files, registry items, privacy data and does SSD maintenance.
