New carb design?
OK it seems to me a new carburetor design is in need.
No matter what I do, I spend more time cleaning carburetor main jets than actually using my equipment.
I have tried running them until empty
Use only non-ethanol fuel
Added Stabil
I have one Stihl chainsaw a MS 460 that never gets clogged up, no matter if it sits up a year with the same gas it starts right up. It had been sitting in a shed for several years when I got it and it started right up.
My assumption is the jets are larger and not as susceptible to clogging?
Similarly I have an older 8N Tractor that never clogs up either.
Seems like all my smaller saws, riding mowers, weed wackers Etc. all clog up if left to sit for a little while.
My thoughts were I wonder if a new carburetor design would correct this issue. Most consumers can't clean out the jet on a carb and therefore would toss it or have to take it to a shop.

When you say two cylinder gas I assume you mean oil mixed, if you are saying the oil mixed is less prone to clogging I would only say my other chain saws are more prone then the aforementioned Stihl mac10 wrote:2 cycle gas seams not to go bad0 -
Seems almost every small engine carb that I have worked on this year has a bad needle and seat and is letting the fuel tank drain into the crankcase.I have not figured out the connection but they all had plastic floats. 0 -

Considering most small engine makers now place a warning on the equipment advising against ethanol I would think you could become a billionaire if you fixed it, maybe an easy access removable plug to run a wire into the jet versus having to disassemble anything? 0 -

I believe half the troubles with ethanol gas and small motors is the use of gas cans to store/transport the new gas.
More so if the gas can is plastic from China. The ethanol acts like a solvent eating away some of the cheap plastic and then you pour a a little of it into your machine, every week.
There are many different plastic compounds, some good, some not so good for gasoline.
I have seen so many idiots use white gallon milk jugs for gas. You can feel the insides of the jugs getting soft and slimy after just a few hours of gas in it.
Then it gets put into a mower.

I suppose it's possible that some really cheap cans from China could be made of plastic that is incompatible with ethanol, but it is hard to imagine. Most of the carbs that are problem carbs are the Al Gore low emission ones. (and they keep on getting made cheaper.
Purposely built so as you replace the eq rather than repair.
I've noticed that lots of my old stuff is made so as it can be repaired. (and I can repair it also and that is why I still have it)
Not so much with the new stuff.0 -
In old outboard motors the floats were made out of cork with some type of coating on them. The ethanol eats the coating off of the cork and makes a mess. One of my old outboards never had ethanol in it and you can see in the picture how clean it is. In the other picture you can see what the ethanol does to the float.
No ethanol was used in this motor and you can see the float on the right side of the photo is clean.
Ethanol made a gooey mess out of this float's coating.
