In order to be PC an adversity score is being factored into the SAT. I guess the new version will have spellings like SCREET for street Etc?

Dumbing down the SAT? Why am I always too late (40 years) to take advantage of this sort of thing? My SAT score wasn't exactly stellar, but enrolling community in college only required the ability to sign my name! 0 -

This is just another example of tilting the playing field. The SAT was supposed to be the ultimate playing field leveler, no matter who you were or what color you are a good score got you in a good school. You could be from the slum but good grades and good score got you in a good school where you earned a degree and got a good job and made good money; the American Dream.

As an example, there was an athlete in my class who was a minority with a disadvantaged background who was admitted to an Ivy League institution with an SAT score that was half of what mine was.
The school obviously included a wide range of criteria in his admittance, as I would assume thousands with significantly higher SAT scores were turned away.
The adversity score that is being assigned with SAT score is a separate score, and the university will see the raw date and the adversity rating.
IMO, this is a mechanism whereby schools are shielding themselves from reverse discrimination lawsuits by relying upon a third party's analysis when tabulating their diversity/adversity quotas.
The raw SAT score is still there. The potential danger will be if the SJW brigades seek to punish schools for ignoring the adversity score; something that is highly likely.0 -
How does it accomplish anything? So a test taker gets points added to their score. Does that mean they're smart enough to pass a test? Supposing they ride this sort of thing all the way through, are businesses going to pad salary for them when they still can't even spell their name as well? In my experience delayed consequences are worse because by the time they come along the stakes are higher. 0 -

What does count in SAT's has more to do with. Not having a proxy take your SAT exam for you who is a ringer who specializes in test fakeing. The advantage of taking several SAT prep courses over some slob who takes the test cold, since he does not know better.
The slep that was not told to select "C" when in doubt of correct answers. Or to be sure to answer all befor time runs out for best scores.

I'm not weighing in on the crux of the matter. Only to clarify the "there are no scholarships" at Ivy League schools comment, which is true but incomplete. Because there is financial aid. Mom and Dad telling one and all their kid is on a "scholarship to Brown" isn't nearly so true or prideful as "we needed a little help". But financial help there is, so that a person attending must not be somewhat cash trapped isn't determinative.
I'm supposing it's true and complete that wrestling is a net loser. My best friend used to wrestle for Harvard (he wasn't bright enough to attend Amherst) and when visiting I practiced shooting 22 rifle on their underground indoor shooting range. Was a long time ago ?..0 -
at every school doing top level athletics, Football and men's basketball receipts pays the scholarship bills, and also operation costs of all the other sports. these non-revenue generating like swimming, lacrosse, track and field, cross country, womens softball, golf, volleyball all owe their very existence to those 2 sports mentioned. of course there are schools that have excellent women's basketball programs that contribute greatly to the overall athletic funds, but they are a minority of Division 1 schools. Tennessee, and UConn namely. 0 -

A good point. I should have been more precise and stated 'athletic scholarships'.
Athletes had access to free food at the 'training table', jobs on campus not avialable to other students, housing allowances, IIRC, and probably other perks. They also had access to the grants and scholarships that were available to other students and no doubt some alumni sponsored scholarships as well. This was 40 years ago. Don't have a clue how it works today.0 -

I heard a conversation on the radio a few days ago about changes to the SAT, and one of the individuals claimed that the same person who designed and pushed for 'Common Core' in schools is responsible for this. Anyone know if this is correct? 0 -
