Gun store closing
Looks like I will be job hunting after June 1st. The owner of the lgs I work in has decide to close the doors . Sales are way down over the last 6 months . He lives out of state and cannot give it the attention it needs. We are starting a close out sale this wed . Leftovers will go to auction after June 1st. Time to stock up on my final wish list items I guess

Sad to here. With Illinois new crime stopping laws that have or will be passed real soon two stores here have closed. Smaller ones that I loved to go to. Damn sad it is - 0 -

Too much of that going on. Thanks to the idiot politicians. ESPECIALLY DEMOCRATS AND THE LEFT.
More and more gun laws, more and more shootings.
Maybe laws that only affect LAW ABIDING CITIZENS DON'T F'N WORK!

I have been to three gun store going out of business auction sales. No bargains there. Stupid people bid ALL the guns over what the regular prices were. I did get deals on powder & knives though. 0 -
Shame, seems like the anti culture in the country is killing business for lots of decent gun stores.
What would it really take to change things? Outbreak of ebola. Race war in the streets. Financial collapse?0 -
I grew up in a gunshop - lived in a gunshop essentially starting at the age of 12.
I spent the better part of 15 to 20 years in and around a gunshop and local gunclub...
If I was not at home or at school or at work I was most likely at the gunshop...
I did the eastern seaboard - north east coast gun show circuit (Virginia to Maine) for 15 years...
Estate sales and other gunshop going out of business sales and industry trade shows...
I am afraid that the lifestyle I had - the environment that I grew up in -the people and places and events that shaped my life relating to gun shops and gun shows and gun clubs is gone - it's fine has passed - it's elements and people have disappeared - the framework as I lived it no longer exists...
And it greatly saddens me - it's a personal loss for me - and we as a people and country have lost something of great value.

Say what you will but the closing of gun stores, pawn shops, retail clothing/shoe stores including some of the huge chain stores can all be attributed to the INTERNET ~ and that includes places like Amazon with huge buying power or or many sellers on the net that stock nothing, but are only a clearing house.
There are people who buy everything over the internet ... including groceries from Walmart.
The internet has killed retail brick and morter stores.0 -

Two have closed near me. One, the owner sold out his inventory to devote more time to trophy hunting around the globe.
The other had a stroke and they?re auction off his inventory. Have bought a few nice estate guns from him.
On the other hand, at least two pawn shops in this area are ramping up their inventory.0 -
Short answer is blame it on Trump . It is really a combination of different things . Prior to my emloyement he had three employees in a row who were dipping their fingers in the till and who defrauded several customers . Predictably sales slumped somewhat . With declining sales went the money for advertising . Doesn?t help that the owner moved out of state 2 years ago and has been managing things by email . Another big big problem is our location , we are in a very small town but are located on a fairly major highway but it is mainly thru traffic . Emotion got the best of him with his original intent of locating in the town he grew up in to try to help the town grow . On the one block original business district there are a Mexican restaurant. a coin laundry , a discount furniture outlet open 2 days a week , a piano teacher and an insurance agent along with an agricultural computer service company . Our plus side is the largest inventory of at 15. parts and equipment in the eastern part of the state . Sadly it just ain?t enough. For those interested we are in Lagrange NC 0 -
Sorry to hear. The local dealer here is expanding. Don't know what his sales are but does a heck of a lot of repair work. 0 -

Honestly, I pretty much quit shopping in gun shops, clerks are mostly rude or clueless, seems they get attitude when you have to ask what the prices are because 90% of the tags are upside down in glassed cases or flipped backwards in racks... that really irritates me when I see several that I may be seriously interested in. 2 words come to mind.......(Poor Management) a self-inflicted business failure :oops:. As my 4th grade educated Grandpa use to say "never beg a man to take your money, there's always a fellow right down the street or around the corner that'll appreciate a chance to take it"......I must confess, I've met that man right around the corner alot in my life..... They said the same thing about Sears & Montgomery Ward with their catalog mail order sales & then their local stores that drove out the other merchants that couldn't compete. They tried fair trade laws but the Supremes shot that down. With the states making progress on getting their Sales Taxes the internet sales are likely to drop because of the shipping costs. The biggest advantage left is not cost but being able to find what you want.0 -
Just an update . Gunshop since we announced our closing has been swamped with buyers . Like sharks smelling blood in the water they have come in droves . Just learned this week that another dealer in my town is also closing due to the decline . 0 -
The chain store retailer SHOPKO closed up this weekend .... they closed ALL their stores nationwide.
Wife got all her Rx filled in their in-store pharmacy which was convenient being only a few blocks away.
Now, it's a trip of about 3 miles.0
