Excuse my ignorance on the subject of short barreled 94s but what is up with the front sight? If the gun didn't appear like it had been rode hard and put away wet it would be interesting. The description says original finish, just doesn't say that there isn't much of it. Bob 0 -
I would think it has been, though likely some time back. I see nothing whatever to justify that rather imaginative price. Bert would be the guy to ask. 0 -
Absolutely been cut down - a 14" octagonal bbl seems a bit unlikely and to me it's quite obvious the bbl and magazine tube have been altered - the muzzle Crown just looks wrong and the front sight and dovetail are poorly done hack job mods...
On the other hand the gun interests me - I find the configuration intriguing and the letter clearing up any legality of ownership issues is a bid selling point in my minds eye.
The price however would put me off of purchasing it - because the overall condition is FAIR at best and the bore probably looks like a sewer pipe...
I don't think it would clean up much under my ministrations and the front sight issue would need fixing - but if it functions and is safe and can print a respectable group at 100 yds I think it would be a unique and attention getting piece that I would enjoy playing around with...
And I am curious if it letters and how it left the factory...
Plus it needs a saddle ring.

Am NOT any kind of expert on anything, ESPECIALLY Winchester carbines- but there ARE 5 pages of Winchester 94s in the ATF C&R book that were MADE with barrels shorter than 16 inches- some 15, some 14- that are legally removed from the NFA, and placed in Curio & Relic status. Whether than gun is one of those, I have no clue- but apparently there was a wagon load or two that were made as shorties. 0 -

A lot of dealers will not, because they cannot ship USPS (though some do!) Nunn, for example will not because it would make a 70 mile drive for him to do so. It is not always because they are dissing C&Rs.0 -

He calls it a carbine, but it is rifle styled front grip, butt plate and cut down rifles had shorter front stocks. I think they got the decimal point in the wrong place on the price. There were short barreled rifles, but I don't think that one came that way.
Wan't a second opinion? I think it's ugly.

One thing for certain, that front sight didn't leave the factory like that, a mix of octagon and flat ??, never seen that before. 0 -
It's certainly not impossible that some body special ordered the gun in that configuration from the factory - and I believe there are 11.5" bbl guns on record...
But on at least a dozen points it tells me that it's been cut down and altered...
Now I believe it was modified in period - that is to say the modifications are old / probably pre WWII - it's open for debate if the modifications were done on purpose by design or done to salvage a gun with a seriously damaged (ringed - split - bulged - burst) bbl ie to salvage it into a working last ditch reserve piece...
And it's possible the modifications are very recent and made to deceive - concealed to enhance interest or value...
Points for consideration.
