I mentioned to the neighbor that firearms sales are slow this time of year and that he'd probably do better after Labor Day, but he wanted to sell the rifle and use the money on an upcoming vacation. Based on the time of purchase (2014) and even with GB's fees, he's making money. He bought the rifle because (at the time) the internet was buzzing with stories about Obama's plan to shut down the CMP. I read plenty of posts about that here on GB! In any case, the CMP is still in business. After shooting the rifle he decided he preferred his AR and the M1 was put away and more or less forgotten. He didn't feel comfortable about private sales, either face to face at home or at a gun show, so he took it to the local gun shop and they offered him next to nothing for it (you couldn't buy the stock set for what they offered). Despite this being a slow period for sales, collectors (like yourself) are always buying nice firearms, so I told him I'd list it on Gun Broker. I hope you get it.
