Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary tourist attraction..
Being imprisoned with violent criminals in a remote, hard-knocks prison like the infamous Brushy Mountain Tennessee State Penitentiary is not something I would ever want to experience.
But it was fascinating to get a glimpse of incarceration at the castle-like Brushy Mountain that has come back to life as a tourist attraction, complete with a restaurant, distillery and outdoor venue for concerts and events ? and it was one of the best tours I've ever taken.
The prison tour allows visitors to talk with a former guard, explore the cell blocks and walk the prison yard as we tried to imagine this "hell on Earth" slammer that operated from 1896 until 2009 in Petros, Tenn.

Needs to be re-opened.
"Hard Time," needs to be more than a statement, for the Select few who refuse to abide by/continue to perform Violent Crimes.
"F" the Cable TV, etc, (And all the other cushy/feel good benefits they are currently receiving.) Lucky I am not a Warden. I've got about ZERO sympathy.0 -
At least they didn't turn it into "Walking Dead" theme park. They might've if the show was still popular.
As for the tourist trap if they opened up the cells they can make it in to a "B&B" so no DUIs from sampling the hooch.0 -
Always wondered if he was singing about a real prison in this song....

The overwhelming vast majority of the population of the African continent and of north Korea and the middle east (rock pile - sand box - Syria - etc) India and Venezuela and many other overpopulated dirt poor war torn communist or socialist or Islamic or dictator ratholes are filled with "people" who would kill or die for the privilege to live the lavish luxury protected lifestyle enjoyed by inmates in the American system of prisons and jails...
Food and water and shelter and clothes and medical care and air conditioning and cable TV and internet and cigarettes and recreational pharmaceuticals and visits with family and legal aid and coffee and porn and continuing education and books and a commissary and freedom of religion and outside support for your family for housing and food and schooling for your kids and welfare and medical care and so much more...
Think about it - our prison population and jail birds live in a futuristic utopia with every conceivable luxury - a better life than 95% of the planets population enjoys...
