gun oil lubrication

The other day I was talking with a local gunsmith and he recommended using automatic transmission fluid for this job. What say you?

  I like a good smelling gun oil and for that Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil works great with a minty smell.
  
  But really anything will work and I've had great luck with engine oil with a preference for the Rotella T6 Diesel oil since it smells less like engine oil than the other brands.
