Direct TV Now.....not the same as standard DTV, cheaper and worth it

We have had Direct TV from the beginning.....we were actually with Primestar and it became Direct TV.....so this has been with us for more than 20 years. We tried the antenna to get standard channels, but we are so far out in the country that it didn't work very well. We watch so little TV that you'd think that it wouldn't be such an struggle to let things go, but I like the noise in the background and we rewatch some things we like when we can't find anything better to put on.

We have Amazon, Netflix, and a couple other apps we watch things using the internet......through the Firestick and Roku on our TVs. I noticed something called Direct TV Now as another app so I checked into it. I signed us up for the $50 package that has all the local channels, the popular channels, and HBO. I didn't know if our internet would support it, but I recently added a Linksys Velop to our WIFI which gives a stronger signal through the entire house.

So, any of you looking to drop satellite TV I can tell you the Direct TV Now thing is worth it......and the Linksys Velop is an awesome addition if you find you are fighting to stay connected or your programs buffer when you try to watch things using your internet.

We just saved $100 per month and we are getting the same thing from Direct TV just in a different way.

    I noticed my bill lowered slightly with the ATT merge, however having lived in many states and having Dish as well as many cable companies in the past: I don't trust any of them.

    Bait and switch, slamming, dropping channels, anything to separate you from you money.

    Thanks for telling about an option I did not know existed.

    Think we will stay with the OTA antenna, Netflix and Amazon Video. Since we cut the cord, we also read more. During college football season, I get Sling for ESPN and the SEC Network, then freeze the account when the season is over.

    Saving some $$$ from what I was paying for satellite.

    We've had Direct TV Now for almost a year. It's been great.
    Saved a bunch of money compared to cable.
    We watch a lot of A&E, History, that kind of thing.
    A couple weeks ago there was a big stink whether AT&T was going to drop those channels.
    So I started looking around and found Philo.
    It has all the channels we watch most, and it's cheaper still than Direct TV Now.
    There's really no sports and I don't know what's available for network TV. We never watch that.
    It's been a week now with Philo and it works as well as the DTV Now.
    There's no contract for any of it, so switching is a click away!

    Enough t.v. for what lil bit I watch :

    I CUT the Cord 6 months ago , was paying $ 179 a month !!! way too much for that crap !

    And : I live out in the country ( half way between Knox. & Chatt. ) ,,,, works for me !!!

    Sound like about $ 40.00 less that our local company, just for basic. Wife would like that.
    But we like to record and watch later is that supported ?? DVR?

    You can record shows.....it saves them to the cloud, but a lot of the shows on the various channels are available any time. It includes HBO so we watched the new episode of Game of Thrones when Larry got home from work Sunday without us having to prerecord the show. I think its comparable to Netflix in how it works.

    The Direct TV Now allows streaming on two devices at once and you can add access to a third for a fee.
    The DVR saves twenty hours for thirty days.
    The Philo I'm using now allows three devices at once.
    Philo saves "at least" twenty hours of DVR recorded shows for thirty days also.
    I'm sure Sling has about the same features.
    It really comes down to channel preference and price.
    But they're all cheaper than cable.
