Comcast is killing us with our cable bill. What are you doing?
Looking for some ideas on how to save on the cable bill...
Comcast is getting nealy 200 per month tax included for triple play TV w/sho and netflix /Phone/High Speed WFi Internet.
This includes 2 tv (Stations physical TV sets)
A friend said look into Hulu. What do you do?

Antenna doesn't work here anymore since they changed the TV signal several years ago. Before I could get all the L.A. channels & San Diego on some days. Now all I can get is four UHF channels.
I pay a little over $100/mo for cable, internet & telephone. I use my old VCR to record but can't record & watch another channel live at the same time unless I watch on the other TV. I thought what I was paying was bad but you make me feel a little better. TracFone works out to a little under $7/mo but most folks would go through the minutes pretty quick. I only use it sparingly & have built up a couple of thousand minutes & way more texts. The data was disappearing into thin air but I have finally figured that out.0 -
What I did was roll over & expose my soft belly as a sign of surrender.
Yes, you can cut the cord, & use OTA & a streaming service, but you won't get the content available from Comcast, HBO, or Showtime. I'd rather read cereal box labels than watch network TV.
One benefit of the Triple Play is that you can move your cell phones to the Xfinity Network for a bargain price; I pay $20/month for 2 phones (data is extra, but I don't use any). I was paying $110 to ATT for 2 phones.
You can get a preview of streaming services by pressing the Xfinity button on your X1 remote, then scroll over to Networks. Or, you can buy a Roku or Amazon fire stick, but you're going to have to pay for the good stuff (Netflix or Amazon or Hulu). If you only have a streaming service, you'd better have good wifi, as that's where your streaming data comes from.
You have to feel sorry for poor Comcast. They had enough in the bank to offer $65 billion in cash for Fox last year, & $40 billion for Sky network this year. We would all feel more comfortable if they would give us another rate hike to protect themselves in hard times.

Cut cable years ago. I do get Internet from them though. I have an antenna, Netflix and Hulu and Amazon Prime(all three are cheaper per year than having cable tv and I get the free shipping with Amazon. I also have Vudu and Crackle apps on tv that have free movies and shows that are not cut but do have commercials. Hulu has more than enough shows that are on cable to keep you entertained plus movies. 0 -
My internet costs $30 per month and that's high speed and watch a lot of YouTube. Rent the house next door and the tenant is tickled to death to pay $15 dollars a month to connect to my WiFi.
The TV costs less than $10 a month and includes free phone service in country. Could be it's included with the Internet, not sure but I don't pay for it, I think. Use Whatsapp for phone, not as reliable as Magic Jack but great for photos and video.
Have two "Magic Jacks" that cost $80 a year for both so "free phone" between U.S. / South America. Cell phone in U.S. is "prepaid" and costs $3 a month when not in use.
Not sure why it's a whole lot cheaper in South America but that is what it costs. Maybe the fact service guys ride 125cc motorcycles for FOR SURE don't make anywhere near $15 per hour. Police don't make $15 per hour, the Mayor doesn't make $15 dollars an hour, teachers don't make $15 an hour. Honestly can't think of who might make $15 per hour, maybe a specialist Doctor or Dentist? Want to make some money? Go into your own business.0 -
Haven't watched TV in years, I do however have Hulu on my phone. Seems like there's a lot of good shows on it and it also runs a lot of sitcoms. I just don't have time to watch any of them 0 -
40ft antenna 40 channels but if your stuck with out signal you have the umbillacle cable cost or sattalight 0 -
We've got Cox Communications ... We were paying close to $300 for extended basic, Encore, Epic, phone and their highest tier Internet ... I'm about the only one that watches tv, the wife & Abby watch Netflix and Amazon Prime and I only watch a few channels (the weather channel, CW, occasional NBC, CBS, TBS, TNT, FX, History, SiFi and AMC) so I dropped down to Extended Basic, middle tier Internet and basic phone which is 30 minutes of outgoing calls (unlimited incoming). Since we all have cell phones the only thing we use the land-line phone for is doctors & prescriptions. I also took back 2 of our premimum TV boxes for "mini-boxes" and returned our router and bought one ... Now we're down to $130 ... I'd drop the phone, but we have to have 3 services to have a bundle ... and the cost goes up if I drop the phone, so we keep it.
Bottom line, tell them you have to reduce costs and see they'll offer you and see what you can do without.0 -

We are in a bad spot for an antenna, so I am stuck with the "pay for it" stuff here.
I've had Direct TV for over 20 years, but recently turned it off and switched to a new service they offer that is an internet based app......like Netflix. I get all the standard channels that Direct TV offered, HBO and my local channels through my Direct TV Now app now.....which costs us $50 per month instead of the costly $130 we were paying for Direct TV.
We have Netflix, Amazon, and I pay for CBS all access because I NEEDED to see the new Star Trek series....(I like it, Larry was let down though.)
Paying for the things we do we get everything we were getting and more for less than we were paying just Direct TV.0 -
I went to Metronet.
Not saving much money, but I like the programming content MUCH better than Comcast and I have no contract.
Also, the picture quality is far superior to Comcast and the internet is lightning fast for me.0 -
While I do not much like Comcast, they are still the best choice for us. About $110 per month for basic cable and HS internet. Cell phones with Verizon (best coverage here in NM, even in some of the canyons we hunt) another $100, so about the same combined as you pay. 0 -
When the cable bill got to $220, I had enough.
This is internet, and basic cable. One box. No movie channels, no pay per view, any of that.
So I kept the internet for like $65 and got a streaming service, Direct TV Now for $50.
I recently changed over to Philo, which is also a streaming service.
It's cheaper still and has the channels we watch most so that's a win-win.
We also have Netflix cause they have lots of odd British mysteries and such.0
