Where have the Hummingbirds gone to?
In the past few years my wife has had to fill the two large Hummingbird feeders of her's up a couple times a week there were so many birds. This year there's not a fraction of the amount of birds there were in the past coming by to feed. Anybody else notice that there are fewer Hummingbirds this year?

We had a couple show up in late March which is about the typical time for our area (upstate SC). They were here for a few weeks, but then they seem to have left and we have not seen them in more than a week. Not sure what is going on. 0 -
maybe like the monarch butterflys which took a BIG hit in the drought in the southwest and agriculture killing off the milkweed (their feed) as a noxious weed.???? we have a large number of H-birds migrate thru the lake place in eastern kansas ....last 4 years here at our place in central kansas the butterflys are almost disappeared and the H-birds a very few now...the H-birds in east kansas are basically two groups...one winters on the gulf coast south of there and the other gets there and bulks up to fly southwest over the gulf (a 20 hour run).....they either make it or drown....butterfly also migrate to and from ONE mountain in central Mexico ...amazing 0 -
I talked to my Mom in East Tennessee this afternoon and she said she saw just one hummingbird on her feeder today. Normally she has 4 feeders out and they stay busy all summer. So something is going on. 0 -
I've seen quite a few here on my rear deck, perched/hovering on my rear dog trolley line. No different than the last couple years. No increase/no decrease. About the same, I would say.
We are up in the Mountains, and fairly Country.

Still frost in the morning in Michigan UP. Hummers are should show up this week but it is not warm enough. 0 -
I put up the feeders 3 weeks ago, and they have been changed every three days. We do have a different group of species in the west than you Eastern guys have. I have heard of no problems for hummingbirds. 0 -
I'm wrapped up with them, have 4 feeders out, for years now I've had one mixed with 1oz. of vodka mixed with the sugar water......out of the 4 feeders you want to guess which one they prefer ? They look like dog-fighting F-16's and Migs early morning and late afternoon chasing each other away

There is some correlation between weather and birds. I honestly think many birds are really good at predicting the weather. We don't have Hummers, too far north here, but there are a bunch of Tit Birds. The Tits often seem to head south when the weather is coming, most avoid hard frost etc. It is imperfect, some Tits stay when weather is coming, most move south. I believe if they could computer model Tit movements they could predict the weather much better than they do.
Here we can get a hard frost well into May. In fact, there is a yearly weather event (hard frost) around the 10th-15th of May that has a name, Eisheiligen.
I know one thing for sure, the Blackbirds have taken a serious hit, their numbers have been noticeably decreasing year by year.
Just a guess but some of the Hummer issues may be the same as some of the Bee issues. A lot of decorative plants (non-native) that people plant are Bee and nectar drinker poison.0 -
