Who Else Has Chili Going?
After a recent thread, had me jonesing for Chili. (I've been jonesing for a while anyway.) Started a batch.
One cup each, dried Pinto beans, Dark Red Kidney beans, Black beans. High boil, with salt/pepper, 8-10 shots of Orange label Tabasco sauce.
3 lbs of Ground Chuck browned, salt/pepper, diced onion and fine diced garlic added towards the end.
Large Crock Pot. Two cans of diced tomatoes with garlic and basil. A tablespoon of Gunnut505's red chili powder. Another tablespoon of green chili dust adds complexity. Another diced onion, a diced green pepper, a handfull of pickled diced Jalapenos. A teaspoon of Gunnut505's Chile Pequin' (Caution, Hot, Hot.)
Crock Pot on high a couple hours to heavy boil, then low overnight.
Red Quinoa/Masa powder to thicken.
Mmmmmnnnnnnnn,.....................................Mmmmmnnnn..............................

With finally getting into some warmer Springtime weather here, chili for me is more of a winter season fare. I do have a few bags of leftover in the freezer, but for me the GRILL is beckoning! A thick Angus ribeye, grill baked potato topped with fresh mushroom gravy! Fresh asparagus cooking on the side burner in steaming butter sauce.
This has been one of the longest, hardest winters I have lived through and I feel like a survivor from a holocaust!0 -

Sounds Very good Brother.
I have two, (three packs) of extremely nice Top Sirloins. It was a toss up between 3 of these on the Grill, or a nice batch of Chili.
The post about Chili, made it a done deal. I LOVE Chili.0 -

Heathen.
Just finished small batch browning my 3 lbs Ground Chuck. Batch of diced onions and garlic in each batch.
Scooped off extraneous oil/grease in to a large can.
Crock Pot with 3 cans of basil/garlic Diced Tomatoes, Added in. A tablespoon of Gunnut505's Red Chili Powder, a tablesspoon of his Green chili Powder as well. A double handfull of last years wicked hot pepper batch, that has been brewing in Pickled Jalapeno juice since last year, fine diced/minced.
Just now adding the three seperate cups of Pinto, Red Kidney, Black dried beans that have been boiling away for last hour or two. 8-10 shots of Orange Label Tabasco Sauce in with them, as well as salt/pepper.
Badia Complete Seasoning over all.
Now bubbling away.
I would agree however, I have had many Pints of Wendy's Chili on returning from many multi-day backpacking trips, up in to the Catskills and Adirondacks. Not half bad, in a pinch.0 -
"small batch browning" that's just your fancy way of saying you don't have a pan big enough to do it all at one time.

If you wish to Steam, your Ground Chuck/Ground Beef - by all means put it in a large pan. The Mo Betta way, is small batches, getting rid of the grease/oil, and adding onions/garlic as you go.
Not that I know anything.
Carry on.
My Chili, will absolutely blow the Socks off any Wendy's Chili, you have ever had. Not even close to being the same/equivalent.
Kind of like a Farmers Market/Grill breakfast, compared to a Sonic Drive through/in.0 -

My chili sometimes has beans but never socks. 0 -

Speaking of Laugh In and another old quote from that show regarding your chili, "Here come da judge" to see if it is even possible to make a SMALL batch of that stuff using 3 whole pounds of hamburger!
More like a chili flavored meat loaf if you ask me!

I did not mention anything about making a"SMALL" batch. (If you read my list of ingredients, I am sure you would/could have deciphered that.) I have a LARGE Crock Pot. (And) By the way, it was 3 lbs of Ground Chuck, not "Hamburger."
Took various bowls in to Work, Lunch mates today. (A big hit.) Dropped off a Quart to my Mom, a little bit ago. (Still warm.) She just now called, raving about how good it was.
I had three large bowls yesterday. (10:30 am, around 2 pm, and then again around 6 pm.) Mmmnnnn,........Mmmnnn,................. Good.
Mission accomplished.
Still have about a quart and a half.0
