I think what is goes by is every time you swing your arm it counts as a step, but it is hard to step without swinging your arm. I knew I walked a lot around here keeping this place in shape, but didn't figure 8-10 miles a day.

Had one, a lot of trouble so I junked it. I use a pair of free apps on my cell phone, Pacer and My fitness pal. Allows me to track steps, calories burned and nutrition levels by entering food consumed. Heart rate is always low, 3 miles at a 15% grade at 3.1 mph gets me to 120-123, so I don't worry about it. Since I lost weight using these apps. I know they work.

If you like the fit bit, by all means keep using it. You must have a hell of a big place, or else you make thirty trips getting a job done. Most projects I start require at least 4 trips to home depot.

Not if you keep your hands in your pockets.

Simpy another 'electronic gadget' someone came up with to suck $$$ from suckers who buy anything.

The information it attains is of little to no value to the wearer.

It motivates the heck out of my wife to get her steps in. I have seen her push herself to meet a goal but in the end don't know if that really helps or not, but being a couch potato sure does not help.

Makaila bought one - it is all the rage amongst the nursing staff and support staff at the hospital at least with women...

She passed the habit onto Mackenzie and they have both become ardent fans and adopted the units as part of their lifestyle. They have tried a number of brands and models and support apps on their phones - and while I am not certain which one they settled on I know one of the deciding factor was getting a model that syncs up with the pelaton exercise machine and is usable in concert with the spin cycle classes they take.

The latest issue is that pelaton may lose the ability to use the music function that makes it so popular - licence agreement and property rights issues.

My current physical recovery therapy program has a bulkier heavy duty multi function hospital grade unit that we wear when working out - to monitor and record certain benchmark health data and vital statistics.

I know a guy with one that has a desk job in IT. He may do 300 steps all day. According to his FitBit, he walks over two miles during work hours.

If it works to 'inspire' you,...great, otherwise they don't appear to be very accurate. I consider them a novelty.

With restless leg syndrome one can walk several miles sitting in a chain and get the same affect.

    Two thoughts on Fitbit....

I?d love to get a smart watch. They intrigue me with their abilities to be a phone and count your travels. But a long time ago I bought a pretty expensive (to me) Omega. I can?t see scrapping the Omega. :(
    Then -
I always worry about things like this. Who knows what?s being monitored and who sees it. Kinda scary to me.

When I wear a watch it's the one my great grandpa bought new back in 1896. The engraving is just about all worn off of the casing so I'd say it was carried for many thousands of steps.

If it ever wears out I might get me a smart watch but now at 70 it looks like it's going to outlast me.

That's a beautiful thing to behold Smitty.
I'm forbidden from wearing a Fitbit at work due to "electronic device " rules, so couldn't wear one even if I wanted to.
$25 Timex Expedition does everything I need, and doesn't look like jewelry.

I have the Charge 2. I just earned the Monarch Migration badge for 2,500 lifetime miles on Sunday. I think the next mileage one is Sahara which is for 2,983 miles. I have a buddy who is all the way up to the Earth badge for 7,900 miles, and the next one (the last one) for him is Pole to Pole which is for 12,430 miles.

I've also earned the Cowboy boot for 50,000 steps in a day and Waterfall for 300 floors in a day.

Kinda fun to track all the milestones.
