computer ?

I want to hard wire another computer in another room of my house. do I need a cat 5 or cat 6 connector or are they both the same ?

    CAT3 is 10 MB/s.
    CAT5 is 100 MB/s.
    CAT5E is supposedly 1000 MB/s.
    CAT6 is 1000 MB/s.

    Most of the current computers have built-in WIFI (even desktops). If you have a WIFI router, you won't need to run a cable.

    They will all connect to the same port but the connectors are not the same. There are a number of internal differences that allow higher rates of data transfer.

    I replaced my old windows 7 with a new windows 10 . I want to place the old computer in the basement/garage for when I need to look for something auto related with greasy fingers
    the reason for hard wire is because I have tried the "linksys router" and wifi before at a distance of 70' to my gun shop and it would not work. the distance from the modem to where I want the old computer in the basement is about 50' .I just ordered 60" of prewired cat 6 cable

    what I found: Can I make a desktop computer wireless?
    Desktop PCs do not usually come with built-in Wi-Fi, especially older models.

    I bought a new Dell desktop over 2 years ago with Win 10. It has a built-in WiFi receiver. As I said, MOST CURRENT confusers have built-in WiFi. If you want to hook up an older computer to WiFi, all you have to do is get a Netgear Wireless N dual band USB plug-in receiver (or something compatible). Plug it into an unused USB port, set it up, and use it without a wired connection to your router.
