local shop was having issues fitting up a stock and handed it over for me to "fit, finish and check with the original pattern, but we will do the stain/finish.
and also can you "do something with" the way the top of the cheek meets the receiver ?
this is the original fit, a bit shabby to me coming from a company like Beretta ?
especially the lack of "follow" along the indents on the side and at the tang.

this is my solution, aesthetically better ?
dont ask me why they got a maple stock instead of walnut, i have no idea..

    Way much better. You do amazing work. Beretta could learn a few things,good gosh.

    they might have done it that way because the mass produced stock doesn't consistently match up as good as yours did, and they aren't going to hand fit each and every one, so they purposefully make it not match up.

    or, there is another model the stock is used on (or previously designed for) that doesn't have that scalloped ledge on the side.

    maybe that's what's going on.

    They deliberately leave excess swell material / produce a thicker profile architecture and cross section / additional depth...

    As noted for final fit finish and sanding but for checkering purposes so the final product can be as close to a single flush fit monolithic plane as possible...

    If they simply contemporaneously duplicated the furniture at time of need or order you would have problems - if the wood has not been ages or kiln dried or stabilized and stored in a humidity neutral environment you may experience shrinkage or swell or warp out of true depending on the wood type and grade and source.

    At least that's my wag.

    The only place wood could be "too tight" on that action is the ends of the receiver tangs. Swell or shrink won't be an issue either if the end grain in the inlet and under the butt plate is properly sealed prior to a good finish being applied.
