Will artificial knees set off metal detectors? :?:

it depends on how strong the metal detector is set
I done been through this entering a court house. in my case no0 -
Had both of mine replaced 10 years ago.
Yep, most security gates will beep at them. I just make sure to wave at screener, then point to my knees so they know what's coming.
Most of them appreciate the head's up.
Now I've got a new shoulder to make things interesting :roll:0 -
Have you ever set off a metal detector with dental fillings???
If like me you have metal in your mouth you will be aware that such detectors do not alert from this - though that may be due to sensitivity settings or capability...
Airport and tsa / court house / security devices also don't generally alert on fillings or pins and screws...
I will observe that the newer medical facilities with MRI or CT / PET scanners have advanced metal detection capability - usually concealed in the shape of a doorway (the frame and floor) which will pick up medical implants and shrapnel of microscopic size.
I am aware of a case where a gent with cancer commuted suicide by swallowing a handful of steel ball bearings prior to an MRI without such precautions and the result was somewhat horrific and messy.
Apropos of nothing - grist for the mill.

Had both mine done and I let them know when going thru security. Since it will show. To avoid extra pad or wave downs. 0 -
MIne lights up the detector at my county court house. 0 -
sometimes yes, sometimes no. I generally look for the body scan, and always tell TSA one is titanium. I try to avoid court houses. 0 -
I carry my card for my prosthetic ankle. 0
