pressure washer problem

I have a brigs & Stratton 2500 psi pressure washer.
last year when I put it away I poured a little light weight oil in the pump as I always have in the past.
I got it out yesterday and checked to see if it would start. it did and I shut it down immediately. fastened the hoses and turned the water on. I then started it and it run for 30 seconds and shut off, like the engine locked up.
I disconnected the pressure hose and a small stream of water was coming from the pump. I started it again at an idle and it continued to run squirting a small stream of water. I open the throttle wide open and the engine shut off immediately as before.
I removed the pump and it turns free by hand .
I have taken the pump apart and I can not find a thing that is stuck, broken or worn .
any ideas ?

    I don't know where you live, but here in the great white north I make it a point to always store my pressure washer in a heated area of my basement during the cold winter months. If there is just a tad of water left in the pump and it freezes, it will expand and do damage. Sorry not much help with your problem.

    With the information provided, it sounds like one of two things. 1- A carburation/fuel problem with the engine, or 2- The pressure relief in the pump stuck, and stalling the engine. Does the engine run properly now that you have the pump off?

    will the motor rev up without a load on it?? if not the pump, may be a fuel issue starving when a load is applied. good luck I have one that leaks at every seal, only get about half or less of pressure, I am guessing it will give out this spring, a new one is cheaper than a new pump go figure.........

    Sounds to me like you need to go to the carburetor.

    the engine runs fine without the pump

    check it out. they make an oil for the pump for storage

    Check your governor for free play so it can move under under a load.....fouled plug (clean/re-gap)....... also check your float bowl for sticking float.....spray carb with cleaner if the governor is free.

    ah, the ole intermittent spark plug wire mystery.

    Tonight check it out in the dark. The kill switch wire could be rubbing shorted, or the spark plug wire, load shifts wires hoses etc and shorts it out.

    Sometimes simple things likea a air lock can wreak havock. Best to be patient with your machine and go thru the motions of regular routines. Freeze out, Air locks, lubrication, fuse, and the like all oommon problems.

    I assume you run ethanol free gas in all your small combustible engines.

    My guess is a stuck valve in the pump. We use a combination product that comes in a pressurized can and fills the pump with antifreeze/preservative that helps prevent sticky valve syndrome. $5-6 can will winterize the pump 2-3 times.

    My 2800 psi pressure washer has a Suzuki engine and a Power Max branded logo I bought from Sam's Club several years ago. The 2nd year, after winter storage in my heated basement, it was very hard to keep running at full pressure.

    I tinkered away most of an afternoon trying to get it going and after getting mad, I gave it a big kick. Hit it so hard I think I bruised my foot. Believe it or not, that kick fixed the machine! No problems ever since.
