Associations and other groups
Associations like the NRA, GOA and others are about the same.
Here is how they work and I will use an example of one later. These groups gather money from like minded folks. Then they tell you how hard they are working to protect your____________ (fill in the blank). They send you informative letters most are accurate with dire consequences happening if they can't fight the bad guys. Then, of course, they ask for money usually starting at 25 bucks. The Association needs these funds to grow, in this world you grow or die. They do not want the gravy train to end so they send you more letters and editorials in their monthly magazines.
I am a member of AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association), the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) and some others including being a Benefactor Member of the NRA where I became a life member at 17, almost 45 years ago.
I have a fellow pilot that lives close by. He works for one of the Aviation Groups, it may or may not be listed above. He stated flat out all these Associations do is hobnob with the Political Elite, eat expensive dinners, travel to locations to meet more Political and Bureaucratic Masters, drink more, eat more and are well paid for doing absolutely nothing of value for the Membership of the group. They NEED to keep hobnobbing to justify their existence to the Membership. They can write lengthy reports on what they are "working on" with the Political and Bureaucratic Masters. It is hard for these folks to remember what the hell was said after several bottles of expensive wine, fine scotch and top shelf whiskey washing down a $100.00 steak. All of the "expenses" are picked up by the Membership and is of course tax free to begin with.
Once you see how the inside operates it is easy to look at all of them with a jaded eye. With all that said, I don't have a better solution for voicing our support or opposition to Government. That is why I am so deeply committed to avoiding Government as much as I can in my life and choose to live way out in the weeds.

There is a difference between the NRA and GOA. One has a Vice President that makes $5 million dollars a year, and uses roughly 3% of membership money to fight for the 2nd Amendment while the rest of the money goes to salaries and to line the coffers of Ackerman McQueen. And the other is exactly the opposite. One has negotiated our rights away for over 50 years while telling us without them our guns would be gone. The other has a true no compromise policy. Screw the NRA....my money goes to the GOA and local pro 2A entities. Plus doing what I can myself. 0 -

I am a life member and the NRA has done some good but I don't give them any money, I support GOA and 2 local 2a/CC rights organizations here in NC.
I do vote but I have found out my vote means nothing to the NRA. That is a shame.
One thing I would like to correct in ruger41's statement is the NRA has been giving away our rights since the 1930's so its more like 80+ years instead of 50
