Something you don't see every day!
I was out in the Desert riding my ATV and decided to take a quick break. Up on a Power Pole about 20 yards from me was two Ravens, one of them had a small Sidewinder Rattlesnake in his beak! The Snake was biting the Raven in the beak and head. The Raven took off flying up to about 100/150ft. and dropped the Snake. Both Birds circled for a couple of minutes and decided it was dead then flew off. I wonder if the Raven made it?
That was a pretty cool mid day show!

most dogs are imune, I would guess a few birds are too, or maybe he just bit so many times he was out of venom...... gotta wonder why they didn't go down and eat him though.
saw an osprey on the golf course today, as we were standing on the tee he swooped down in a lake and came up with a nice bluegill about palm size, I know he is a better fisherman than me, just wondered why he wasn't knocked silly as hard as he hit the water0 -
Surprisingly, many animals are snake eaters and aren't affected by the poison.

I had a Raven as a semi-pet in my teens. They are definitely predators. I watched mine kill Rabbits, Cats, and Crows.
I think Ravens are a lot like Red Tail Hawks, hard for a snake to get it's fangs though feathers. And Birds are quick.
My Raven actually had a sense of humor. My mothers pocket pooch would sleep under a towel at the end of the couch, the Raven would snatch the towel off the dog and run out the back door making a chortling sound (sounded like a laugh).
The Beak on a Raven isn't a toy. Mine would tap it on my sneakers when it wanted attention. If I ignored it a little too long it would put that beak through a sneaker and into my foot.0 -
Hessian, Always heard rumors you could teach them to talk, like a parrot.
Any truth to that, or is it just an old wives tale?0 -
Mine tried, but he kind of mumbled and was hard to understand. If you knew what he was trying to say you could understand it.diver-rig wrote:Hessian, Always heard rumors you could teach them to talk, like a parrot.

Another of his things was to stick his beak in my ear and kind of whisper to me. This could go on for a long time. When he got serious about it he would peck you in the side of the head if you moved around too much.0
