Dawnie and I were lunchroom monitors at a public elementary school. It's a fun job, most of the time.
There is this 4th grade student, who walks out of class when he feels like it, and comes to the lunchroom. Dawnie and I didn't want him there, but the third monitor is related to him, so the principal took advantage of that relationship and made her his baby sitter.
We finally had enough. The principal said she has assigned the lunchroom to this student as his safe place to go whenever the stress of class work, the same stress experienced by every other student, gets to be too much, he can come to the lunchroom to cool off. That wouldn't be such a problem if he would just go and sit down and do some work, but he wants to wander around and entertain the younger kids.
Today, it was him or us, and we left.0 -

when you get NO support from above and told to basically coddel a problem kid why not go home....and do something productive and "less stressful"... good move 0 -

And that my friends is why SOME of todays future adults will be nothing in life, because of the above BS. I can guarantee you the kid now has been branded within and will be an absolute nothing in the world or worse. :!: 0 -
Agreed... I'm an assistant scoutmaster with a local troop. None are my kids. I do so just to keep busy and stay out of the wife's hair. The SM, while "trained" doesn't run the program as prescribed. I keep making suggestions (wear his uniform, have an opening, have a program, camp out...) but he continues to do what he pleases. Don't make it hard or unpleasant for me to do something I'm volunteering to do...
Today or the next meeting will be my last with the troop.0 -
My wife recently retired after 35 yrs as a classroom teacher of elementary students, as we all know changes have come by leaps & bounds and definetly not for the better , she wouldn't go back in todays classroom with a iron-clad contract for 1 million dollars per year. Todays students are very often public reflections of their parents character, we carried a special liability insurance policy against lawsuits to protect our family assets, luckily never had to use it, many parents are foaming at the mouth just waiting for their child to be touched, even hugged........very said to say...as volunteers you both did the right thing in leaving 0 -

Yeah, and just think of the big bucks they are out. Ever hear "Get over it snowflake, no one cares how you feel"? That applies to kids too. Caving to kids who act out is not helpful to any one, just expedient. Like the laws politicians pass on guns.0 -
A fellow dept head asked me one day how I kept a smile on my face. Pointed out I had already retired 3 times. When the day came that I left THAT job, ,my income would go UP about $10 grand a year. Tends to give you a real high KMA factor. My boss knew that, told me as long as I was happy with the job, they were happy with me. Sorta made going to work fun.

So now the parents that teach their kids to have respect and do their schoolwork have to see that little ~~~~ get away with his tantrums. And then the other kids see that crap and start bringing that attitude home, and the teachers have to deal with it too?
Well I would suspend child and parents and get a head start with State supervised care.
I say thanks to you for not wasting your time and spending it like you want.
The parents use the school as a babysitting service, so put the kid in a room, and the judge, and have the parents sit in the room also with the administrator of the school district and teach them all. After all the administrator is responsible for what goes on in the school district.
Probably a better use of their time as well.0 -
The principal at the elementary school that I attended back in the 50s would have beat this kid black and blue with the big paddle he carried. The paddle had white stripes painted around it and looked like something a Viking would carry into battle. The paddle got results!
Now the little darlings run the schools with the help from their bleeding heart liberal parents. :x0 -

Typical for today, rather than confronting behavior issues they placate them. Someday he'll be a police officers problem to address and it won't end well because he'll finally run into someone that will confront the problem, with force. 0
