Smoked A Ham
Sunday i smoked a ham and the flavor was great. We used Apple chunks.
When you picked up the ham at the store it looked great. However after we cut it open it was mostly fat.
I would say more than 50% to 65% was nothing but fat. The sad part is we paid more for better meat and it was worse.
We did not get the meat from Walmart but a real grocery store.
Anybody else have fatty meat like that or was it a 1 bad piece.

Take the ham fat and mix it in some deer burger. Getting a ham with some actual fat seems to be uncommon. Animal fat is a commodity now. There's a market for it so it gets trimmed closer than when I was young. I'm sure I'd be surprised at what they do with it. 0 -
The flavor was great with the apple wood. I will do another one with apple wood soon.
I loved the flavor and my wife liked the flavor but she did not eat from the ham but one time.
She does not like fat on anything even steak. I like some fat as long as it does not get crazy. I really love roast fat.
The ham on the outside was a little hard and smokey but after about 1/8 to 1/4 the meat was perfect. I have no idea how big the ham was before i smoked it.
My wife ate 1 meal out of it and i ate the rest. I will put the ham on a roll or biscuit and add cheese and i am good to go. LOL
I will try another wood next time because i am still experiencing with the smoker.
I like ham and roast better than a pork loin but that is just me.0 -
