My daughter is an agent, not with Progressive, and when I was riding she wanted me to have the 100k. She basically said that "SHOULD" be sufficient for anything that I caused. That's what I went with and the premiums are substantially lower then. ymmv, imo, that would be good.

As long as Insurance companies keep settling with the Ambulance chasers rates are going up no matter how great you drive, never had claims Etc.

My BIL and I have Harleys, both the same year. His is a Street Glide, mine an Ultra.
He has Progressive insurance, full coverage.
I have Dairyland Insurance, full coverage.........$181 annual premium paid a few weeks ago.
His Progressive Ins. is more expensive.

A few years ago, I checked a number of Ins. Companies and NO ONE could beat Dairyland.

I even called Harley Davidson Ins. for a quote. When they asked what company I currently had and told them Dairyland, the guy said, "I can check but doubt we can beat their premium for the same coverage" He was right, they were over $100 more expensive.

insurance is just a gamble you won't get in an accident, that said your gamble now is do you drop coverage and figure you can lawyer up better than the other fellow in the accident? also most health insurance companies won't cover a motor vehicle injury, you may want to check that before you give up your insurance, a few days in intensive care would eat up that $100,000 very quickly, good luck

Isn't Progressive Insurance owned by George Soros and his kind?
No thanks. I'd rather pay more.

Medical bills from motorcycle wrecks are high, and I imagine the older one gets the chances of an accident on a motorcycle increase. Some insurance companies don't even insure bikes anymore, when I had USAA I had to insurance my bike through state Farm because USAA wouldn't insure it.

    Another vote for Dairyland.

Back when I had a motorcycle, I had my car and home insurance with State Farm. Still do. I asked my agent about insuring the bike. He said that State Farm does not like to insure motorcycles, and they will only insure them for customers who also have State Farm car insurance. So, he agreed to accept the bike, but quoted a premium that I thought would be more appropriate for insuring the Crown Jewels.

So, I called Dairyland. No troubles at all, and the rate was WAY cheaper than State Farm's. A year worth of insurance, premiums paid in monthly payments, and if you make 10 payments, you get the other 2 months for free.

I don't have a scooter anymore, but if I ever get another one, I'll call Dairyland again.

Full coverage doesn't cover any hospitalization or liability. It only covers the replacement of your vehicle, then you also have to have a liability policy with it that is attached to your full coverage insurance. He's saying that he just wants to drop the full coverage part ( the part that just covers the replacement cost of your vehicle, not somebody else's or hospitalization or personal property damage) and keep the liability... but wants to know if $100,000 is enough

Thank you, Ed. I?ve got the personal injury part covered. Not worried about theft, the bike is never out of my sight and is locked in my basement when at home. At age 65, a serious motorcycle crash would probably end my riding days, if not my days above the sod. The bike would be sold for scrap.
I figure, based on my riding the last few years, it costs $50 or more in insurance costs every time we take it out. But mrsdeere still enjoys it so I?ll keep going.

If you have towing on your ins, make sure it stipulates a tilt bed tow truck. You don't want your full dresser towed with a cradle snatcher!

I just have the liability type coverages. The minimum policy they will write costs me $76/yr, It's the same for minimum coverage or much more. Just ask them how high they will go until the premium starts to go up. Actually even then the increase isn't much.

I always thought it was about covering Your self because of injuries/damage to a rider sat on the bike behind You .

I always carry $100,000 / $300,000 on vehicles including my Harley when I had it.

Mine at State Farm is much less. I can bundle it with the insurance on the Forester and Tundra to make the required state minimum for liability.

Went with a company called Agency Insurance Company. We were able to keep full coverage for a little more than half of what Progressive were going to charge.

?????? been going since the kids left the house and I could afford to go . but we dont go into town unless we have a virgin with us. there is nothing to downtown sturgis unless your in need of a t-shirt. missed one since 07 and that was because the grandbaby was expected at the same time. Oh , and we ride there,! I guess from your statement that dairyland ins. shows a big presence there. I never noticed.

Yes, Dairyland always has a booth set-up in Sturgis.

My first year there was in 1963 ... ALL the motorcycles (All Harleys) didn't take up 1/2 block parked next the the curb in front of Gunners Bar on main street. People went to see the races and tour the Hills .... no vendors, no streets blocked off of anything like the commercial thing of the last dozen years or so. Camping in the Sturgis park next to the creek was free to!
My Uncle used to ride his old 45 out there in the late 40's, put on a grip tire and race.....then ride it back home. 8-)

Thanks for the link.I just went thru their quick quote system. they were over $200.00 higher a year on an average on each of our bikes. I guess I am blessed by state farm due to the fact that we have all vehicles and house and farm insured with them. and have had state farm for 41 years. And havent been able to find comparable coverage any cheaper , so far . but am always looking , just to stay informed . I bet ya"ll could tell some interesting stories about the older times running to sturgis , and other places as far as that goes.

We have everything with State Farm, house,,boat, and full coverage including un-insured and under-insured on 4 vehicles and 2 motorcycles,,,every couple years I compare rates with other companies but State Farms always beats them,, I guess just because I have been with them 30+ years.. 2011 Electra Glide $286 a year and a 2016 Honda Goldwing "" mamma likes to ride in comfort"" $312 a year

Never hurts to shop the market so always worth a shot.

As for state farm, I have nothing good to say about them from personal experience. Dad had the farm, buildings, house, cars, equipment and everything insured with them for decades. ONE accident (about 500 dollar claim) and they dropped coverage. This was back in the early 60's IIRC.
Since then, I've heard of same from many, one claim and they dump you ......... then you pay big time once an ins. company drops coverage on your record. Others many have a difference experience.

As far as things that happen at Sturgis ........ yea, there were times and events that were very crazy. And even with some biker gangs, Hells Angels, Bandidos, Sons of Silence, Outlaws, Pagans, Mongols and others that show up, never ever had an issue with them. You don''t hassle them, they won't hassle you. Example; Once stopped for gas midst about 40 Angles. Fueled up, went inside and paid, got a soda and sat down outside to drink my soda. The VP of the San Francisco chapter of the Angles sat down along side me with two of his 'associates.' We chatted for maybe 30 minutes just like anyone would. Pleasant fellow but wouldn't want his pizzed at me. ;)

Leaving this Sunday for Laughlin River Run. Seems like it goes downhill every year. Most of the booths are for junk clothing. I leave on Thursday afternoon since the room rates & meals skyrocket Thursday.

Didn't read all posts but I have been with Dairyland Insurance for 35 years. Only have liability but it's only $95 a year. Might check with them.

And for all my years of riding since around 1960 and having insurance with Dairyland since about 1981, I have never had a claim on a motorcycle.
Therefore, I have no idea how prompt or well they are on claims settlement.........and hopefully will never find out! :D

Is motorcycle insurance more expensive in states that don't require riders to wear helmets?
