One million magazines. That?s how many standard capacity feeding devices Golden State residents bought during the one week when sales become legal in California recently.
Reportedly a pallet of Magpul P-Mags for America?s favorite rifle, the AR-15, tallies up to 3,000 magazines. So a million magazines represents? a lot of pallets. In simpler terms, many semi-truck loads of freedom pellet dispensers flooded into California to feed the demand from good guys and gals.
The UK Daily Mail reports what the CBS Evening News will not:
More than a million high-capacity ammunition magazines flooded into California during a one-week window created when a federal judge temporarily threw out the state?s ban, gun owners? groups estimated on Thursday.
Reform groups said the projections are self-serving as gun rights organizations try to make the case that magazines holding more than 10 bullets are so common now that a ban is impractical.
The magazines aren?t tracked. But there are plenty of anecdotal evidence that the floodgates briefly opened when US District Judge Roger Benitez overturned the state?s nearly 20-year-old ban late last month.
The judge halted sales a week later, but ruled that those who bought the magazines can legally own them while the state appeals his ruling.
?Everything was all sold out. I basically took whatever I could get,? said Chris Puehse, who owns Foothill Ammo in Shingle Springs, east of Sacramento.
Oh, it gets even better.
He fielded dozens of telephone calls while buyers stacked up 20 deep in his one-man store to buy the hundreds of magazines that arrived in two shipments last week. He had just six left by the time Benitez reinstated the ban last Friday.
?People loved it. It was like we were out of prison and were not treated like bastard stepchildren of the country anymore,? he said.

30 round mags are the standard. 10 rounders are not. My stores here in Texas will have a handful of 10 rounders, rarely any 20 round mags...but plenty of 30 round mags.
So yes you idiotic reform groups dipwads...30 round mags are more common and the ban is impractical much like the stupid bullet button and having to pop the upper loose to change mags.0 -

I wonder how much sales tax Commiefornia collected in those mag sales ? So when then state forces everybody to turn in those magazines, Is the state gonna refund that sales tax ? I don't thin so Lucy.

My guess is that they didn't get much. Gun owners avoid sales taxes like the plague and most purchases were probably made at venders who didn't collect sales tax from CA buyers. Brownells seemed to have taken the point on shipping magazines into California ASAP (a well done to Brownells). Here is their sales tax policy:

I tried to explain to my son in law some time back that the difference between a 10 and 20 round magazine was the 20 seconds it took to switch magazines. His reply was well but we have to try to do something. Promt public exicution of murders was my solution to the problem. 0 -
Actually Brownells was a little behind the curve when it came to selling mags. IIRC they started on Sunday by phone, two days after the ban was (temporarily) lifted and Monday via website. Points not addressed in the article are the number of 10 round magazines already in CA that were "unblocked" during that 7 day period, and the several million other magazines acquired prior to the ban being lifted that gained "legitimacy" during that week. A Springfield XD magazine, M&P, Sigs, HKs and so on, rather difficult to find :roll: prior to 1994 of course, would have been a tad difficult to explain prior to 31 March 19. Now, not so much. 0 -

Like dfletcher said above, this is a double win now. They won't be able to prove any of the "illegal" mags bought after the original ban, were not here legally. I would like to dispel the rumors that there were celebratory gunshots fired when the ban was lifted, it was only commie liberal heads exploding.0 -

I appreciate what you are saying, but if it takes you twenty seconds to change out a magazine, you are doing it wrong, need to increase your meds or decrease your alcohol intake. I do a reload way better than half that with my wheel gun (sober).0 -
