Rocky Mountain oysters
It has been probably eight maybe 10 years since I've last had the pleasure to eat them.
I am planning on going on a road trip in about a month-and-a-half and as a kid there was a place, I believe it was in Wyoming along the freeway that serve them. Hopefully the place is still and still serves them, I remember as a kid that was one of the best places to stop to eat on our trip back to Nebraska every year.

An American touring Spain stopped at a local restaurant following
a day of sightseeing. While sipping his sangria, he noticed a
sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next
table. Not only did it look good, the smell was wonderful. He
asked the waiter, "What is that you just served?"
The waiter replied, " Ah senor, you have excellent taste! Those
are bulls testicles from the bull fight this morning. A
delicacy!"
The American, though momentarily daunted, said, "What the hell,
I'm on vacation! Bring me an order!"
The waiter replied, "I am so sorry senor. There is only one
serving per day because there is only one bull fight each
morning. If you come early tomorrow and place your order, we will
be sure to save you this delicacy!"
The next morning, the American returned, placed his order, and
then that evening he was served the one and only special delicacy
of the day. After a few bites, and inspecting the contents of
his platter, he called to the waiter and said, "These are
delicious, but they are much, much smaller than the ones I saw
you serve yesterday!"
The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied, "Si senor.
Sometimes the bull wins."0 -

They are not bad if cooked and prepared properly. 0 -
Yup, wonderful. You really cannot tell them from fried real oysters. I used to help at an annual calf branding and at the end of the day, we'd have a bucket full (literally) of calf testicles. A bunch of hard-working cowboys can go through that many without batting an eye. 0 -
Pass, on all levels! 0 -
finally some one I can agree with, they are welcome to my share anytime.......wiplash wrote:Pass, on all levels!0 -
way back when I worked construction we had a carpenter foreman who family ( all were some boss or job super ) all loved to hunt and brought in game for us to try at lunch rabbit , deer , and so on he brought in a large container of mountain oysters . I passed I had a good idea what he was offering that day, but many were eating them up then some one ask by the way what you bring us today .. a lot of frowns and smirks but all who ate them said not bad . 0 -
Before elastrators become the norm and big ranches did knife work,
many big ranches in Wyoming would donate their nuts to the local fire department and they would clean them and put on a big feed with all the trimmings as a fundraiser for small fire departments.
I like'em about any way you can fix them and lamb fries are as good if not better, they have a different flavor.
Used to know a family that would cut a bunch of horses every year and cooked them for themselves, I never got the chance to try them, but would given the opportunity.
You can get them daily at a cafe during the Denver stock show in January . They are sliced thin, battered and deep fired, yumm
But I guess it's a lot like scotch, and acquired taste.

I've gone my entire life without eating testicles and I'm sure I can do the balance of it without eating the genitals of another male animal. 0 -
Pass.
I am hillbilly at my roots and have eaten all manner of beasts that most people would turn from, to include normal game and their parts such as heart and tongue. I've eaten many turtles, countless woodchucks, beaver tail, lots of snakes etc..
I do not, however, eat the tits, the balls or the peckers of any creature.0 -
Bruce's Bar in Severance, Colorado. About 35 miles south of Wyoming, 5 or 6 miles east of I25. Cowboys come there from Wyoming
for oysters.0 -
When we went to South Africa to hunt several years ago the evening ritual was cocktails and a snack.
Usually Finger food, Cheese and crackers or something savory.
One evening out comes a tray of fried little bits and pieces, very tasty.
The day before one of the other hunters had killed a giraffe.
Princess was not impressed. I thought they were good.
We had some of the best food ever while there
Again in a heartbeat0 -
I helped a friend slaughter and bone out a buffalo bull last fall. He asked me if I wanted the nuts and I said "Hell Yes!"
A little flour and panko crumbs, fried in butter -- on the same day the buffalo was killed. They were the best thing I have eaten in a long time!
The heart was the second best - and it was so big that it took me 4 days to finish that off.0 -
I guess some people will put anything in they're mouths!

We used to clean five gallon pails of testicles that the vet brought us and the women would put them on cookie sheets, and put them in the freezer until we could uniformly slice them . Then coat them with batter, deep fry them and let the party begin. We would take them to the local tavern and by then the word got around and the place would be filled from door to door. Now Im not sure if you could even serve them in a local bar. 0 -
I had a sister-in-law, she was married to my brother before he passed away, that had a master is physiology and only knew what she read in a book !!!
Well, some friends of hers took her out to eat one evening and they had 'mountain oysters'.
She came back to the house where my parents, my brother and my husband and I were.
Of course we ask how her dinner was. GREAT she said but what ever we had 'was kind seedy'.
My brother and husband just looked at her and started laughing.
No one ever told her what she had just ate. She probably wouldn't have believed us anyway until she got a chance to read it in a book0
