Let me tell you a story about a Luck/Turkey shoot I helped as range Officer about 12 years ago.

I was at the check in table signing people up and checking their .22 rifles and ammo in.
This old, and I mean OLD guy steps up and pulls out of his pocket a 2 piece box of .22 ammo. It was OLD!!!
Then he slips out of an old soft gun case a Mint pump action winchester that looked brand new, not almost a 100 years old like it was.
I had to ask what the story was????
He said he bought the rifle and ammo when he and his wife moved into his new house so he could keep it in a corner of the bed room.
    When was this? I asked.
"When I got back from the war, WW2"

    :o:o:o
Her's a pic of what type of ammo he had.
I handed him a free box of Blazer ammo and said use these.

As painful as the match may have been, where else will they go to learn? Glad you were chosen to nurse them into potentially becoming regulars and if nothing else at least they had a good ecxperience to share with others!
