New pistol in a new leather holster

Should anything be damaged or discolored by keeping a new pistol in a new leather holster to get a set?

  An 83 year old gunsmith/machinist here makes holsters.
  
  He greases up the gun, puts the gun in a baggie, then inside the holster, then puts weight on it (old encyclopedias). There may be more creative ideas now?
  
  I've seen guns that were left in holsters for a long time (no baggie etc.) and it wasn't pretty. The leather attracts some moisture and then you have the unknown tannins etc.

  The chemicals in the leather will indeed damage the bluing over time. Oil it, put it in a baggie and you are good to go. Or use a dummy of your pistol like the leather workers do.

  Moisten the leather, but do not get it soaking wet. Put your firearm in a plastic bag and then put it inside the holster. This is the proper way to break in a holster. The plastic bag will protect the firearm for any discoloration or rusting

  Paste wax on the bag helps if the new holster is a tight fit.
