A way to treat infections I had never heard of:
Ice down the infected area, most bacteria dies or goes dormant at 45 degrees, skin dies at 28 degrees. Cooling the area of infection can kill off the infection.

It is an effective remedy to use while transporting a patient, say from the back country, that has a bad flesh wound (perhaps sustained in murky water). It will help slow the growth of harmful bacteria, but it's by no means going to kill most varieties that live in the outdoors or that would routinely come in contact with skin. 0 -

So a few related conversational gambits...
When you talk about "most" bacteria or staph you must flip the switch in your head and think in terms of billions of germs and flora and fauna
Consider the comforting advertising call out "kills 99.95% of germs on contact" from say mouth wash (shout out to James Lister) to antibiotic wet wipes or purell...
It's a factual statement but still leaves millions of strains unaffected
Same with most antibiotics - kills almost all but still leaves millions alive
Also consider that bacteria can survive inside volcano's or on asteroids in outer space - so surface of the sun hot to near absolute zero (shout out to panspermia and Jacques Cousteau)
There is life on volcanic vents at the bottom of the deepest ocean trenches that never see a hint of sunlight
Also consider that without a few million helpful and useful bacteria and flora and fauna you would die - you body would cease to function

Citrus juice and honey kill more bacteria than the above referenced aforementioned body cooling homeopathic folk remedy but still don't touch the super antibiotic resistant staff like MRSA
Penicillin (bread mold) and aspirin (willow bark exact) don't work on the big killers anymore
On the Lewis and Clark expedition every single member of the expedition caught and passed on a number of nasty STD's - the treatment was to use liquid mercury to treat open weeping sores
It's a more complicated issue.

Hmmm. In an emergency situation in the field you'd have to sacrifice the ice in the ice chest to treat the wound. That would mean no more cold beer! I'd have to tell my hunting buddy to tough it out

There is some spirited debate about the origins of why operating theatres are kept cool
Some point two the body snatching grave robbing craze in great Britain where corpses (the fresher the better) where a black market item - supposedly used to advance medical training and anatomy knowledge and to teach surgeons how to operate - and that in England at the time the only bodies legally allowed to be used for such purposes were those of convicted and executed murderers - and that these classes were seasonal - conducted during the winter so the bodies stayed fresher longer and to cut down on the smell
Other opine that surgeons and nurses wearing protective gear and extra layers of leather and oilskin required a cooler space so the team was more comfortable and did not sweat alot
Some point to the German doctor who tried to convince his colleagues that germs he had viewed under a microscope were causing disease - and that hand cleansing and instrument cleaning with alcohol would cut down the spread of illness and mortality rates - he was shunned and snubbed and mocked - he went insane and died of infection in a sanatorium ironically - while almost at the same time James Lister and Florance nightingale were working towards the same goals but from differences in causal beliefs
It's a complicated issue.

In the field, I will try to CLEAN the wound with soap & water, DISINFECT with hydrogen peroxide, & DRESS with antiseptic cream.
Hydrogen peroxide has many uses; it's a better mouthwash than alcohol.
