Water Boy
If the S hits the F, there won't be any electricity. You will need water. You lower the Water Boy into the well, bring it back up, you get 2 1/2 gallons of water.
There is a valve on the bottom. You put the Water Boy above your bucket, and pull the little rod at the top, and the water goes in to the bucket.
This is a solid and well made product. I believe it could withstand years of full time use.

My guess is that if you thought the power was out for a long time the idea is this could be lowered down the 150 foot well to obtain good water. I assume you would remove the pump and everything and lower it down with along rope?Alpine wrote:I have 5 generators, and my well is 150' deep.

The old ones were made of galvanized metal. My grandparents used them until the ?70?s when they installed a pump and indoor plumbing.
My well Is 340 ft. deep, but water comes up to about 25? Fromm the surface.0 -
May have to get one of those. We have a 30' drilled well into a gravel bed located on one of the farms. Local small town drilled years age as a test well, only time it's been used was for filling a water tank for spraying and that was years ago.
It produced the sweetest drinking water.0 -

Agree, 20 lbs. of water gets mighty heavy when lifting even a short distance pretty fast, I have several creeks and ponds to draw from which I've done before & fire to purify it if needed. It's still a good idea for some people though0 -

We've got a creek behind our house that runs to a lake 200 yards away. So I got one of these filters just in case we ever need purified drinking water when the SHTF someday. This one will filter out viruses. 0 -
You cut three saplings, 3 inch diameter, 12 feet long. You tie them together at the top to make a tripod.
You put the tripod above the well and you put a little pulley on it.
You get a rope, in my case, a 200 foot rope, lower down the Water Boy and up you come with 2 1/2 gallons of fresh water. Yes it would weigh about 25 pounds.
Did someone say 25 pounds was too heavy? That is a joke, right?
A 12 year old boy could easily raise water from a well with this device.
If the S hits the F your number one problem would be getting water.

You know, I just may get one. I need to open my well head and see if there?s room for it to go down by the 1? plastic pipe. It?s a six inch steel casing and last time it was opened, I could see the water level. I wonder if they make one in a smaller diameter?
Oh, I see they come in 2?, 3?, and 4?.0 -
I've seen them with check valves in the end..more expensive, seen them with flappers, and a rubber ball inside.. not hard to make. But counting material, time.. 25 bucks or so is reasonable. 0 -
My well is 120' into the aquifer. I would hook my 230 generator into the control box and pump until I ran out of fuel. Then that very same bale would be my backup to the backup. The good thing about that is you can take with you and reach water in cistern or well pipe or lower it from a bluff into water source, making it portable.

Spring fed 1500 gallon underground tank. Large cap. (2-2 1/2'.) I've got a 5 gallon bucket with a rope rigged up, in order to lower it the 4-5' I need in order to access water.
Probably 600 gallons of water already stored in the House.
First Need Filters are okay, but Katydin Filters are the snitz giggles. (I own an MSR, Waterworks.) [As well as a couple First Needs.] Probably #2. (A Ceramic/Activated Charcoal Core - filter element, readily cleaned.) You clog up a First Need, you are done. (Sold the stuff for about 27 years.) Extensive Field use.0 -

The Water Boy company says you need to remove the existing pipe and the pump in order for there to be room to use this thing.
They do make one with a 4 inch pipe that could, theoretically, get past the pipe and get to the water. However, if you lowered the Water Boy 50 feet, and it got jammed tight against that pipe, you are screwed. You will not get any water until the electricity is turned back on.
My pump hangs on 450 feet of pipe so it would be a bit of a chore to pull all that pipe, and the pump out of there. It is 200 feet down, to the water.0
