Oh no, a gun question?!

What was the reasoning behind Ruger choosing to pin the front sight base of their ARs over the barrel, instead of under like everyone else? I can't recall seeing an FSB made by anyone else pinned like that. Just something different from the crowd, or am I missing the point altogether?

    don't rightly know your answer it may just be Ruger, as in their pistols, why do the cylinders rotate counter clockwise instead of clockwise as most others?? maybe they just want to be unique

    Now someone will question why many ruger semiautomatic pistols must be upside down to reassemble...

    Or why despite this issue being prominent and illustrated in ruger issued manuals loads of folk can't get one back together and end up taking it to a gunshop or gunsmith.

    Possibly the front sight pinning method is connected to arbys fish sandwiches.

    Yeah, I never understood the mystique behind putting a Ruger Standard back together.

    So there are several issues of concern regarding the ruger AR platform front sight pins...

    Number one is that a plethora of folk have complained that their brand new ruger was missing one of the pins when it arrived and was unboxed

    Number two is that a plethora of folk have complained the pins in question were walking out or falling off completely when breaking in or test firing their rugers

    Number three is that the ruger pins are not the same as industry or MIL spec standard and are not compatible - some are removing the ruger pins and drilling things out to except the more common and available after market replacements from brownells and others

    Number four is that while ruger seems to be aware of the issue and is quick to provide free replacements that they have not solved the underlying issue causing the pins to disappear

    Number five is that folks don't understand that the ruger pins are not compatible with MIL spec and that they ordered the wrong part that now will not fit - and some complain of price gouging or obfuscation profiteering by after market suppliers

    Number six is the question of if the factory pins are reusable or should be discarded and replaced any time they are removed or drifted out for adjustment purposes

    I still cannot fathom why ruger design engineers went in a different direction with the pin design - it does not appear to same cost or time or materials during manufacturing

    Surely somebody better educated than me has a suitable answer.
