Army reserve question
Anyone care to take a poke at this, my nephew is on "profile" for an injury, not sure if it is service related or not. He has moved over 700 miles away from his last unit for work.
He insists that he must go all the way back to the old unit for training due to being on profile he can't change units. Seems odd to me I suspect he has other reasons for the issue but have no way to verify.
The only reason I ask is that he is using my vehicle to travel.

From what i just looked up they will pay up to 300 dollars and lodging.
When i was in we had people come from different states to train. However that was in 1992 to 1994.
I served 10 years from 1983 to 1992 active duty and then 2 years in the reserves. After 14 months i moved from Arizona to NC and they kept me in the reserves but i did not have to report for work.
They kept me in the unit but i was just excused from duty. However if they needed me i would be recalled and report just like everyone else.
On my DD-214 it showed when i got out at the end of my enlistment not when i moved away.
My job moved to another state and i had to move with it.
When i got set up in another state i tried to transfer to another unit and the unit i was in would not release me to join the other unit. I am thinking they wanted to keep the number of reservist they had as high as possible.0 -
How many "good"years does he have in? What's his job -- it may be that no one close has a position he can fill or is willing to accept him with his profile. He might also have a better chance to get promoted in his current position.
I knew guys that flew Atlanta to Louisville for drills because that's where they could find a "slot" for their rank, etc. and needed to make two more years to retire.
If he'd getting close to making his 20 good years it can be well worth the sacrifice.
Lots of details in finding slots in the reserves. If you can't get a slot you can transfer to the "Individual Ready Reserve" (at least you could before I retired) and earn points towards "good years" by taking correspondence courses, etc. until you could find a open slot.
In the Army reserves you are your own "career manager" and have to research options and make choices based on what's available.
I didn't get a form submitted at the right time and that's part of the reason I retired as a MAJ instead of a LTC.

Tell him to rent a car. They only cost about $30 a day to rent, that's a lot better than putting 1400 plus miles round trip on your car
I'm traveling to Nebraska in about a month and a half that is about the same mileage round trip, and I'm renting a car. There's no use putting wear and tear on my vehicle when I can rent them so cheap. I don't think I've taken one of my vehicles on vacation in over 20 years because renting is cheaper than driving your own0 -

I second the rental. My wife and I rent anytime we leave town. Don't have to worry about any breakdowns or issues, and while it wouldn't be cheaper to rent a daily driver, I agree that taking a trip it works out well. Plus most of the rental companies have weekend specials. We usually book a mini car for the weekend at 12.99 (went up from 9.99) and my buddy at the rental place hooks us up with everything from a SUV to a Caddy 
Even if he gets stuck with the econo car so what he is only using it to get to his location and back, it iwll be good on gas and reliable.0 -

Who was whining, except possibly you with this post. I was just explaining to to you who was in clear need of explanation what I wrote.
But nice try to turn it around on me, next time try to come up with something better than that if you going to try to to turn your failure around and make it look like it was all me.
By the way, how mature of you. Saying that my mama wears combat boots. I haven't heard that since I was in first grade. But then we all graduated to the second grade and left immature sayings behind us.0
