DOM of Savage 99

They built just over a million 99s. I think it was the best lever gun ever built. Most production ended in 1981. A few limited runs were done after that. I asked a Savage rep in about 2000 if the 99 would ever come back and he said he didn't think so. All the machinery was wore out and anyone with experience making the gun was either dead or retired. I do have one reference that indicates the K on the lever means the gun was produced in 1959. Bob

note that mine is not stamped on the lever itself but on the blue frame just infront of where the lever begins. if that's where it should be located then ill go with that, thanks

That's referred to as the lever "boss" and should have a small circle with letter stamped inside it. I've still got good eyes, but between the light stamping, small size and case hardening it's difficult to read.
