Remington 878 AutoMaster Range report -
Brought an oldie but goodie out of the safe, a while ago.
Remington 878 AutoMaster. Made between 1959-1963. A preclude to the venerable Remington 1100.
Beautiful Firearm.
Shot 18 rounds through it. Functioned flawlessly.
Tight patterns at 25 yards.
(30" barrel, Full choke.) Kept 98% of #4 Heavy field load in a 26" circle. (Consistently.)
Love it.
Would not desire to have it pointed at me. :twisted:

A serious drawback, is the two in the tube, one in the chamber configuration.

Believe I will leave it out of the safe, bedside for awhile. Put the Savage/Stevens 311A double barrel 20 ga. In the safe to take its place.
3 12ga. Rounds, beat 2 20ga. Rounds 3 to 2.
I'd like to kick the guy, that left the reloading band on the stock long enough to imprint it, on the beautiful stock.

around 10-15 years ago a co-worker who knew I like guns and also helped me get in the first CCW classes offed here in Ohio
ask me about a 878 I had never heard of one I thought he meant a 870 but he insisted a 878 some movie or vidio game he seen a reference to one
I had too look it up I thought I had heard most all Remington destinations util that day
I have seen barrels listed since then even a service to convert 870 barrels to fit by drilling the gas port holes
I have never seen on as in holing it in person0 -
Yeap, I got a 878. Don't shoot it much. Nice old school "heavy in the hands feel" gun.
It had a later barrel put on it, will have to think a while about how it was done.....
thinking now a 870 barrel works if you drill the gas port holes the right size and position.
Will have to dig out the old barrel and see what was done. :?:0 -

I bought one at a gun show several years ago...Like new condition for $125.00! Great shooter. I gave it to my son who has put allot of rounds through it W/O issues...0 -
An 870 barrel will fit. You need to drill the two holes in the bottom, where the barrel mounts in to the receiver. I've explored adding a shorter barrel to mine, via a good friend. (Ranger, Weapons Specialist) now working (part time,) in a Gun store up in NY State.
An 18" barrel vs. a 30" barrel. Hhhhhmmmmmnnnnnnnnn............................................................0
