well crap

Ditch-Runner
I noticed my eye sight was failing fast went to have my eye exam yesterday '
docs words your eyes suck even corrected they suck ..
told me I heeded to see a specialist I have glaucoma
called today to a well know doc close by early was april 28th 1st open date
they called earlier have a cancel for tomorrow 11:00 am
will see what come out of it

the doc that did the exam told me he was in a seminar ( retrain / refresh ) meeting last week a new thing happening is too cut the retina off replace with a donated one and start over . back in 1994 I had radial keratotomy done
worst thing I ever done its been a fail since day one and is adding to my problems now

    Sorry to hear that.

    Your inititial prognosis sounded like mine. "Your Eyes Suck, Glasses will not help you."

    Several surgeries later, cataracts removed, lenses removed, replace with Silicone implants/replacements.

    The change is absolutely remarkable.

    Hope they can help you out.

    Dave, I had my cataract surgery done by Dr. Paul Moyer just off of rt 48 north of Dayton. He referred me to Dr. Bruce Burck (I think that's how he spells his name). He is a retinal specialist. I have a hole in my rt. retina and Dr. Moyer wanted to make sure that the surgery would not compromise my retina.

    They are both very experienced and capable Drs. If you haven't seen a specialist yet, I would recommend either or both of them.

    I have a appointment at 11:00 in the morning with Dr. Stark he is well known and recommended by several of the eye doc's I have seen in the past
    he has several offices and in the local town's in Sidney its on Mon and Thursdays . next open was April 28th but they called today had a cancel and opened up a spot tomorrow . less time to worry about it I guess
    see what they say and will keep your doc's names handy there not that far from me

    The Glaucoma Foundation along with dozens of other reputable? sites have lots of information. First thing a optometrist will do when finding the pressure in your eye is elevated is to prescribe eye drops to help open the "relief valve" in your eye to let the pressure escape. Can work for years if your regular checkups catch it.

    Glaucoma medications slow the progression of glaucoma by reducing elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) to prevent damage to the optic nerve.

    follow up
    my eyes are still dilated but here is what I found out
    I do have glaucoma and a new surprise I have cataracts and they are the fast growing kind not th eslow over time build up why I noticed so fast
    good news its all early stages and can be repaired but will be a summer long event one eye at a time 1st up lazier for the glaucoma starting the 15th
    thaen a week later th e2nd eye then a 6 week follow up then on to the lazier repair of my cataracts one at a time also
    he did say when done I would harpy as a clam with my new eye sight
    I am hoping so since 1994 when I had RK surgery its sucked to say the least simple things like reading , shooting . or trying to work on small projects was not enjoyable
    any way not looking forward to all the down time but sure looking forward ( with fingers crossed ) a good out come and better vision

    I will admit going in I was a bit concerned and still am but feel a lot better at least on the possible out come . going to be a long summer but hopefully at least I will see it :o

    Prayers for a good recovery D/R. My eyes are fading fast in terms of the readers, and hopefully that is as bad as it gets. I will keep you in my thoughts for a good recovery....

    When they exposed me to intense focused targeted radiation therapy...

    I actually ended up with visible external radiation burns.

    When the exposed me to a little used intense and toxic platinum based chemotherapy...

    One of the more frightening side effects was transient blue and yellow color blindness and tunnel vision...

    I will admit that the thought of being blind bothered me more than the cancer killing me.

    That's my baggage - one of my soft spots you could say.

    I hope and pray that your vision will improve or at least stop degenerating.

    But IMHO you are are a strong man with a strong heart and will power.

    Whatever happens may be difficult but being blind will not make you less of a man or lower your value to us as friends or peers.

    So while we pray for the best outcome we also know that you can carry whatever burden may come your way - and you must know we value who you are inside regardless of any change or loss of ability.

    We are an odd lot but together we are a strong family and an indescribable support group.

    Keep us informed - lean on us if needed.

    compared to the path you and too many of my friends and family have traveled and some never made the finish line and some like you still blazing the trail fighting the whole way
    honestly I feel like what I am experiencing even thought scary is mild child's play to any one fighting or has fought cancer
    I fear it after seeing my family and closest friends taken down
    sure I will have a few days of unconformable minor pain days
    but I still hold you and other's as examples of true human spirit to win
