winchester 100 cycling problems

I have a Winchester model 100 carbine in 308 cal that doesn't want to cycle. After the first shot the bolt stays half open. The mag is marked Win 88. Could this be the problem? Should a model 88 mag work in the model 100?

  Yes it should, if caliber correct.

  A lot of good info in that link that babun posted. In my limited experience (Have had a 100 since 1969) if the mag is not out of spec, if the recess for the bolt lugs are clean and not galled, would look to the cleanliness of the gas piston and cylinder.

  11b6r has it watch youtube there is a trick to getting then apart.

  Give it a good cleaning. Could be a problem in the gas blowback. See if there is any blockage in or around the gas port or lines.
