We cut the cable TV cord
Love it but so many commercials it sucks and how can the IRS allow all the commercials as a tax write off . Maybe the same commercial 6 or 7 times in a hour.

My TV cable went by and by about two years ago. Only way I would pay for cable is if they let me choose the channels I want. Two decent channels and 98 channels of crap isn't worth much to me. Particularly when an hours worth of watching has to include 1/2 hour worth of commercials. 0 -

I'd love to drop direct tv. But the alternative, watching over the network, is terrible for me. Our download speed is under a meg and oftimes Amazon video tells us it's too slow to watch.
We continue to pay for those 150 channels and watch about 5. The only thing that makes it less painful is we DVR everything and FF thru commercials. A pita but it works.0 -
I remember growing up on TV when it was growing up too.
A 1 hour show was this: 13 minutes of the show, then 2 one minute commercials, then 13 mins of show, 2 more commercials, 13 mins of show, ect ect,.
Like I said TV has grown up, but it sure as hell didn't mature.

Does this mean you're doing the antenna thing or that you're only doing internet programming such as offered by Netflix, etc? How are there more commercials than with cable? Due to not being able to fast forward?? 0 -

We have the directv and we love it. We are way out in the wilderness. Picture quality is unbelievably good. Almost never lose the signal, maybe once every 6 months in a storm, it will be out for a half hour maybe.
We pay over a hundred bucks a month, worth every dime.
Hell, just to drive in to town is 30 bucks. Yes, it is 30 miles and, son, you will pay 50 cents a mile, gas, oil changes, new tires etc., you will pay it sooner or later like it or not.
Parking downtown is 7 bucks.
The ticket, I don't know, 10 bucks? So $57 to walk in the door.
Last movie I saw at the theater was "The Sixth Sense" that was 16 years ago in Asheville. The Iphone, which I really hate, hadn't been invented yet. But just as the movie started a kid in front of me got a call on his flip phone and was yakking away.
I was just about to walk over to his seat and discuss "manners" with him, when another millennial up front, MADE A CALL on his flip phone, and was chatting away about the movie. Then another inconsiderate youngster started yapping on the phone.
I realized I was going to have to go at it with half of the people in that theater. I lasted 10 minutes and we walked out. But, it did cost $57.
When I was 22 years old, they had ushers in the movies. Sometimes retired cops or military. They stood in the back and they had a flashlight. If someone started acting like an inconsiderate a**h*** the usher walked right up, shined the flashlight in their face, and had a short discussion about "manners." If the person didn't get the message, they were kicked out of the theater.
There was an idea back then, back in the sixties and seventies, that you should be considerate of other people in the theater.
Haven't been back to the movies in 16 years and I hate it, I used to go to the movies about once a week, really used to enjoy the theater. But we have all kinds of great movies on the directv, plus some good shows on Discovery and Nat. Geo.
Plus, love the reruns of "Three's Company."
Just kidding about that last one, I did watch 2 minutes of it the other day and it is just as stupid as it was originally. Inane. It is on all the time, yes, lots of garbage on directv but some good shows on every day.0 -
I'd just as soon be done with cable and all other "pay to use" options and go back to network TV on my 2nd residence. I'm not there often enough to justify paying for it and when I'm there watch just a little TV - movies on DVD mostly. I can't get a good signal over the airwaves and those "hi - def" antenna types don't have enough range. I'm not exactly out in the boonies, haven't found anything that works for me. 0
